Akosua Adjepong Marks 20 Years Of Doing Music

Akosua Adjepong has marked a legendary 20 years of being a musician at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The Akosua Adjepong I knew 20 years ago when I was 7 years was the same Akosua I saw on Saturday. Indeed a lot of things have changed in her life but not her looks. Though her age has multiplied, Akosua still has the same looks. The older she grows, the more pretty she becomes.

The historic show dubbed ‘Akosua @ 20’ concert which was attended by lovers and well wishers of Akosua kicked off with performances of Wind Afrique Band, DSP Kofi Sarpong, Kofi Bentsil, King David in the first phase.

The opening prayer and welcome address followed. Bessa Simons, Amarh Pino, Tagoe Sisters, Becca, Akosua’s elder sister who is sojourned in the UK Stephanie Benson then took off the second phase.

A documentary of Akosua was then aired with a lot of good will messages from people who have known her since the good old days as a high life musician and now as a gospel singer.

The concert’s theme ‘honouring the pacesetters, living the highlife and spreading the gospel’ best fit Akosua’s personality. Her first performance on the night was met with thunderous jeers and applause from the audience. She sang some of her gospel songs and other gospel songs, Asabea Cropper, the queen of highlife music and her brother the Kente man, AB Crenstil and Gyadu Blay Ambolley thrilled the audience.

Akosua’s sixth album “This is my time” was released after a prayer from her husband Rev. Prophet Daniel Asamoah-Larbi of House of God Intentional Prayer Ministries on the night and copies were sold to the audience. The first copy sold at 2,000 Ghana Cedis.

Akosua’s second time on stage was off the hook, wearing a yellow dress with yellow cap and black shoe to match, she performed ‘Kokooko’ and then audience’s favourite ‘Frema’. It was a delight to watch Akosua do what she did 20 years back. She rocked the stage with her complicated dancing moves.

Akosua couldn’t fulfill the promise of uniting with other members of the group NAKOREX to perform their hit song ‘Kpanlogo’. The group was formed alongside herself, Nat Brew and Rex Omar. Though Nat Brew was not in the country now, Rex was ready to perform with Akosua but the Electricity Company of Ghana had other plans for the show and it ended abruptly.

The audiences were still seated after the first two light offs brought Rex Omar’s performance to an end but the third one sent everyone out and lo and behold the show ended.
