Ekow Smith Asante Shares His ‘Hollywood In Ghana’ Experience! “It Is My Dream To Get Into Hollywood & I Will Do That By God’s Grace” He Says!

Actor Ekow Smith Asante was one of the few known Ghanaian actors who tried their luck in the auditions for ‘The Spirited Actor’ – The Search For Africa’s Next Hollywood.

Though he didn’t make the final list, he has refused to talk about his experience but after much coaxing, the actor finally opens up. He told GhanaCelebrities.Com that “it was a beautiful experience”.

He continued, “Beautiful in the sense that, I was looking at the organizational part whereby normally we do auditions here and when you get to a certain level in our field, hardly do people [producers/directors] call you [for a movie roles]”.

“Once in a while you get people to want to try you for certain roles to see whether you can convince them that you can play it. But 80 percent just call you and give you the scripts and you do it”.

The auditions for the reality show which was aimed to recruit acting talents in Africa for the fame in Hollywood took place in Accra, where over 700 people were auditioned by Hollywood based acting coach Tracey Moore, film producer and director Samad Davis, Prison Break actor Rockmod Dunbar and comedian Anthony Anderson.

Ekow was auditioned, hopeful to make the final list to add up the list from Nigeria to represent Ghana in New York for the commencement of the biggest reality show in Africa.

Many fans of his were of the opinion that, as an established actor, it was a wrong move by him to have gone to the auditions. But Ekow disagrees, stating his two main reasons for taking part in the auditions, with one being the fact that; it is his dream to get to Hollywood.

“I actually went to the Spirited Actor for two reasons. Of course it is my dream to get into Hollywood and I will do that by the God’s grace and two, to look at how they organize it, the camera positions. That’s how you see about three cameras just for audition purposes”.

“All angles taken and positions created and the professionalism was at its peak and that’s what I wanted to experience a little bit of professionalism, it helped. Future if I’m doing auditions, I know what to do and what to bring in”.

With the winner of the maiden edition billed to star in a movie alongside Hollywood actor Morris Chestnut among others and several other exciting prizes, Ekow was confident and stepped on the stage to be auditioned but unluckily for him he didn’t make the final list to be flown to New York, the movie capital in the world.

It is disappointing but not to Ekow because of the contacts and experience he has garnered. Asked if he was disappointed because of his inability to make the final list. He answered in the negative with a smile.

“No! No! No! I was not disappointed; in fact I was pleased I was part. You meet people. I always want to associate football with our job [movie], you are a player, you play for Hearts or a local team and you hear that Manchester [United] team is in town, it’s good to play for them; it’s good to have relationship with them, talk to them. I have gotten numbers”.  He said rather confidently amidst smiles.

He wrapped up the interview with, “It’s good to know people who can help you in the future. So I was not a least disappointed. I was cool”.

Ekow is preparing to go on location to take part in Kwaw Ansah’s ‘Good Old Days’ movie series.
