Ghana Music Awards 2011 ‘Best Rapper of the Year’ and ‘Hip Life Song of the Year’ nominee Guru is ready with the music video for his new single ‘Mmaa Kuo’

In explaining the concept of ‘Mmaa Kuo’, Guru added: ‘an everyday happening, the ladies we meet in our clubs happens to be the same ladies we meet in church and sometimes some of them pretend to be too holy for worldly stuffs during service but they end up doing more than expected.

Few days ago, we said farewell to 2010. We are in 2011 and I want us to take a look at the cars our Ghanaian celebrities drove last year. Most of them will still continue to drive the same car in 2011, whiles some will purchase new ones.

JACKIE APPIAH

Co-winner of the Best Actress In A Lead Role at the Ghana Movie Awards 2010 is currently, the only Ghanaian actress who owns a fleet of expensive cars including a 2008 Model Nissan Murano, an all-wheel drive Variant Infinity 2009 model, a £120,000 ultra-modern Range Rover that has the registration number customized in her name and other small cars.

NADIA BUARI

 

The winner of the Best Actress In A Supporting Role in English Language actress uses an Ultra-modern luxurious SUV Lexus RX 350 believed to have cost about US$100,000. She is also reported to have customized the registration number plate of the vehicle to suit her initials. The registration number ‘NSB-210’ is believed to stand for Nadia Sidiku Buari. The vehicle gives Nadia a huge ‘swag.’


JOHN DUMELO

Ghana’s Best Supporting Actor In A Lead Role for English Language is now called the sexy John and he drives a 2009 model of American Toyota Tundra Pickup Van a showroom price of $90,000. He is the only Ghanaian actor who uses this type of van, and fresh rumours have it that he is about to release a new car. GhanaCelebrities.com will bring you the exclusive.

He drives a Mercedes Benz and it is not surprising for many who know him. His first ash color Benz was last spotted with his wife. He, himself is last seen with a black Mercedes Benz. “I love Benz,” he once told NEWSONE.

The wife of the former Black Stars captain Tony Baffoe has throughout last year snatched all the motherly roles. This year too, she must be positioning herself for it. She looks like someone who has a high taste flamboyant lifestyle. She also drives a Nissan Pathfinder.

She is the manager of actress Jackie Appiah and a costume expert. She did costume for a number of movies last year. She also drives an ash Hyundai Four Wheel Drive.

I still can’t forget the reason Joshua gave Ghanaians when he broke our hearts by losing to Manny Pacquiao. The ‘banku and kawe’ eater drives different cars but we spotted him in his brand new convertible BMW.

LUCKIE LAWSON

The actress turned producer is one of the business minded stakeholders in the movie industry. She operates a restaurant at Asylum Down in Accra and has not got too much taste for living a flamboyant lifestyle. But she drives an expensive ash colour Chrysler Pacifica.

FRED NUAMAH

 

Now known as the CEO of the recent Ghana Movie Awards, Fred Nuamah, is also an actor and artistes manager. He drives a number of cars but he is most often seen using his Porsche Cayenne. At Bob J’s funeral, he drove his 2002 Jaguar XJ Sport car.


FIFI BANSON

Fifi Banson is a household name in Ghana, courtesy Peace Fm. He is currently touted as one of the funniest voices on radio. He drives different cars at different times and the last was his Toyota Highlander 2009 model.

The director of award winning Sinking Sands movie, Leila Djansi is perhaps the slimmest director in Ghana. But she does not drive the slimmest car in town. She also drives a Toyota Highlander.

Ghanaian Artists Must Learn From Foreign Artists & Not Only Copy Blindly!

Observers, they say are always worried! Indeed I like to observe and I don’t mind being tagged as a worried gentleman, so far as what I’m worried about is very important to the development of the Ghanaian and Ghana as a whole. Do I need to keep reminding you that I love Ghana? Certainly not!

It is not new to any of us that Ghanaians love everything foreign. Even if the air we breathe is packaged from outside and sold to Ghanaians, they will buy it. Anything foreign is warmly accepted in Ghana. Period!
Apart from Ghanaian’s strong penchant for anything foreign, we seem to also copy lots of things from the west.


What don’t we copy at all? We copy their way of dressing, talking and walking and even their music videos are blinded copied and replicated in the local music videos. Though this practice is not the best, it is not much of a surprise to me. This brings me to my question; why can’t Ghanaian artists learn from the foreign artists, instead of only copying them blindly?

Most Ghanaians, especially the younger ones seem to know more about foreign artists than their own local artistes, they even call our beloved local artists ‘local champions’.

To make my point and not digress, I have observed over the years that foreign artistes who are contracted to perform in Ghana, comes with lots of followers. They seem to have disciplines they call “their entourage”. Are they to be blamed?

These entourage, most often consists of most, their dancers; back vocals, if the artist is a live performer. Not so important people in the entourage includes the managers, promoters,; producers and lastly their label mates as well as people who are coming for only sight seeing. Apparently, they have heard that in Africa, the people live on top of trees like monkeys so they follow along to come and catch a glimpse.
Sometime ago, I asked one of the foreign artists whether he has spotted a human being on a tree yet, guess what … he looked at me and laughed. Since then, I have made it a point to ask any foreign artist, notably ones outside Africa the same question.

Ironically, also in this entourage are upcoming musicians who are being promoted. Some also are already established musicians who have featured in one or more of their songs and for that reason, they have been added to the trip, because they hope to perform those songs at whatever event they have been billed to perform.

As if to say the long list of entourage pays for their own plane fares. No, the organizers have to take care of each one of them including their hotels and other thing. Some of them leave behind heavy hotel bills.
 Can the same thing be said about Ghanaian artists? I wish I can answer this question. Greediness and pull-him-down-attitude-because-I’m-better-than-him-syndrome has taken over them. They seem to be waging war against each other so far as who gets the opportunity to perform at this or that event is concern.

Even when these foreign artists are on stage, their ‘hype’ man also supports him. Can’t local artists learn from this? How many of Ghanaian artists travel with their Disc Jockeys? Only few but even with that one, it’s within the country and not outside Ghana.

Not only in Ghana but these foreign artistes always travel to any country in the world, where they are billed to perform with their entourage.

Nigerian musicians, the duo P-Square came to Ghana for the Vodafone 020 LIVE Concert with more than 10 people following them. Among these people were musicians from Nigeria, who apparently came in their numbers to support them.

Also, after the concert, it came to light that Jay Martins who was part of the P-Square entourage, though not billed to perform and was in Ghana to promote his songs, was instantly paid $6,000 to perform on that night. This, in all indication goes to their advantage.

Don’t forget that the likes of Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross and the rest of the foreign artists who have performed in Ghana came with their entourage. No matter how small the concert is, these entourages always followed them around. This is something I strongly believe Ghanaian musicians can tap into and benefit from.
If any organizer wants to bring 50 Cent to Ghana, you can’t preclude him from coming down with his G-Unit members, same thing applies to other rappers. I’m waiting for the day when Ghanaian musicians will go to shows outside and go with their label mates for the exposure.

Though I’m not in support of always bringing to Ghana foreign artists, I think, Ghanaian musicians must respect themselves if only they want to be remunerated well.

How many Ghanaian musicians who have performed outside have had the chance to go with an entourage? They dare not even ask for it, because they have made it so.

Paradise Entertainment Outdoors New Sensational Sala

 

“I feel excited, I’m happy to be on the same label with them (referring to VIP and 4X4). You know when they are on stage, you see the energy, the power, so I’m happy and it feels good” , this is what Sala said when GhanaCelebrities.com asked her how she feels like being on the same label with heavy weights and crowd pullers like VIP and 4X4.

This, she said at an interactive ceremony organized by Paradise Entertainment to officially introduce her to the press at the Boomerang Night Club in Accra.

Answering questions from the various media houses, Sala, the newest edition to the Paradise Entertainment family, the same label that houses the likes of award winning artistes; the legends Vision In Progress (VIP), the international superstars 4X4, Mimi Divalish, Ghana female rapper Tiffany and Omanhene Quata said she was happy to be on the label though she won’t disclose how many years she penned down to be with the label.




Her manager Mr. Duke Banson who doubles as the CEO of Boomerang Night Club beaming with smiles said Sala is a 100% Paradise Entertainment product. This means, she wasn’t signed from other label but they (Paradise Entertainment) discovered her and seeing the talent in her, they decided to sign her.

Also, one thing which tickled his fantasy to sign her was the fact that, in a conversation with her about where she wants to be in 5 years musically. She stated that, she wants her name to be a brand known by everyone.
Sala currently has two music videos ‘Fakye Me’ and ‘Falling’ which are getting rotations on TV. Her first video ‘Fakye Me’, like a girl in love, Sala seems to have an addiction for her man and will do whatever in order to please him after offending him.

The constant repetition of ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘forgive me’ is what makes this song an apology song. It’s more of a love cum apology song.

‘Falling’, her second video on the ‘Just The Beginning’ album is another love song. To my understanding, this song talks about Sala in love with someone who seems not to have realized any of her “in love” gestures.
She dreams of falling anytime she lays her eyes on her prey (man). She asked what else she must do for her man to realize she loves him.

Sala was born Salamatu Yakubu. She grew up in Accra, where she had her basic education. Aside singing, Sala is also a model, a songwriter and an aspiring actress.

She first had her talents acknowledged while she was studying in Europe majoring in Arts.

Founder Of Ghana Movie Awards Presents Founder’s Merit Awards To Agya Koo, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro & Roselyn Ngissah!

The organizers of the Ghana Movie Awards, Gollywood Production Limited yesterday at the Golden Tulip Hotel presented two brand new SUV Zoyte four wheel drive to deserving Ghanaian actors in a special ceremony.

The Founders Merit Award is a non-competitive category of the Ghana Movie Awards. This was instituted by the founder of the GMA and it is aimed at recognizing efforts and also to encourage actors in pursuit of their movie career.

Majid Michel who won Best Actor In A Lead Role For English Language in his role in “The beast” lost out on the car to Kofi Adu a.k.a. Agya Koo who won the Local Language in the same category as above.
The quartet of Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah got the nod ahead of Rose Mensah a.k.a Kyeiwaa. Agya Koo’s triumphant was in recognition for his role in bringing the movie industry in Ghana back to life.

In attendance were; the members of the GMA Jury, which was made up of experienced industry players. Also, Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa were in attendance with their entourage. Some were clad in Agya Koo Fan Club T-Shirts. Missing in action was Jackie Appiah.

Apart from the two cars, some of the winners and nominees in the following categories Best Actor In English Language (Both Lead And Supporting), Best Actor In Twi Language (Both Lead And Supporting), Best Actress In English Language (Both Lead And Supporting), Best Actress In Twi Language (Both Lead And Supporting) will be clothed with free clothing from Prince Clothing for a year.

MKOGH will also provide 10 times clothing sponsorship for any events they are billed to attend for a year.

Golden Tulip Hotel will provides free gym for all the winners to exercise their body and get fit. SPA 216 will for a year groom and beautify the winners.

Jackie Appiah Disappoint Fans As She Boycotts Founders Merit Awards Presentation! Is She Feeling Too Big To Share 1 Car With Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro & Roselyn Ngissah?

 

Star Actress Jacquelyn “Agyeman” Appiah is known in the Ghana Movie Industry as Jackie Appiah. She is without doubt one of the richest Ghanaian actresses now. She is also one of the few actresses who own fleet of expensive cars.

At present, the actress owns and drives a 2008 model Nissan Murano, an all-wheel drive variant Infinity 2009 model, a £120,000 ultra-modern Range Rover that has the registration number customized in her name.
Putting the above into consideration, then maybe Jackie does not need the SUV Zoyte that the Ghana Movie Awards gave out. Even if she does not need it, was it the reason why she boycotted the presentation of the car?

A short ceremony was put together by the organizers of the rejuvenated Ghana Movie Awards to present to winners a special award dubbed Founders Merit Awards.

The day was to enable the organizers Gollywood Production Limited to present 2 SUV Zoyte 4 wheel drive cars; one to actor Agya Koo and the other to actresses Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim and Roselyn Ngissah.

The Founders Merit Award is a non-competitive category of the Ghana Movie Awards. This was instituted by the founder of the GMA and it is aimed at recognizing efforts and also to encourage actors in pursuit of their movie career.

A day after the awards in a separate meeting, the founder has announced that, he picked Agya Koo ahead of Majid Michel after both actors won Best Actor In A Lead Role in both English and Local Language in their roles in ‘Ama Ghana’ and ‘The Beast’ respectively.

Also, he disclosed to the press, that he has given the nod to the quartet namely; Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah for their role in the ‘4Play’.

At Tuesday’s presentation ceremony to give out the cars to the winners were major players around the organization of the awards, some actors, directors, well wishers, as well as award winners but conspicuously missing was star Actress Jackie Appiah.

According to reliable information available to GhanaCelebrities.Com, the Actress who has been earlier on informed of the presentation failed to attend the ceremony without informing the organizers she could not be there.
Though Jackie failed to turn up, her stock characters in the movie were there to witness the presentation of their car.

Juliet Ibrahim and Kyeiwaa who were not at the awards on the 25^th of December, 2010 were presented with their statuettes. The former didn’t attend the event because she was had given birth to her first child but for the latter; speaking in Twi which literally translates “It wasn’t my fault I couldn’t make it to the Ghana Movie Awards. It is because [I’m sick]”. This, she said in a rather comic way. Well, she couldn’t be bothered, the woman acts good in Twi movies.

In arriving at the decision to give the cars to the winners, the founder, Mr. Fred Nuamah acknowledged that the car is a gift to facilitate the winner’s movement, motivate and spur them on to greater heights.
How can four actresses share one car? This was a question lingering on the minds of the general public. Though the founder of the awards acknowledged this unfortunate event, he told GhanaCelebrities.com that, he had decided to give the two cars to the Twi Language movie makers and the English Language movie makers respectively.

What he didn’t envisage was four actresses being winners in that category. He therefore asked Ghanaians to comprehend that, the car is for the category.

The keys to the two SUV Zoyte were presented to the deserving winners after they read and signed the Terms and Conditions. However, GhanaCelebrities.com has been trying to get Jackie on the phone but her phone has been off since the presentation.

We will still try to get the reason why she failed to attend this important ceremony.

Most Popular Entertainer Of Ghana (MPEG) Launched! Agya Koo, Asamoah Gyan & Co. To Be Honoured

 

Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana (MPEG), a new awards scheme to honour Ghanaian professionals in the fields of music, football, boxing, movie, theatre and broadcasting has been launched in Accra.

Like any other awards scheme, MPEG is to commend and honour individuals in the above mentioned disciplines who excelled in 2010. It is a cross-discipline honours and not aiming at competing with any existing or upcoming awards scheme.

The MPEG College which is made up of professionals and watchers of the various disciplines in Ghana use their experience and active involvement in their chosen fields last year to nominate those who most excelled. The public then would be called upon to help choose the finalists and then the ultimate entertainer in 2010 through text and online voting.


The nominations was be done by the College and voting by the public to choose those to be honoured. The College has therefore nominated personalities for the various disciplines to be honoured as mentioned above.

The Ghana’s Most Popular Entertainer is the individual or group adjudged by the College as the most popular entertainer in 2010.
