Shirley Frimpong-Manso Calls Her New Movie ‘6 Hours To Christmas’ A Dark Comedy

Only a handful of directors have the desire to try new things in their movies but this is just like a hobby in the eyes of writer and director Shirley Frimpong-Manso. From her first movie ‘Life and Living It’ to the very last one ‘Check Mate’, Shirley Frimpong-Manso has explored most genres of movies.

But her newest movie ‘‘6 Hours To Christmas’ falls in a genre which might be new to some movie enthusiasts.

Shirley calls ‘6 Hours To Christmas’ the latest addition to the repertoire of Sparrow Productions a ‘Dark Comedy’. Sounds interesting huh? If for any reason none of the directors has the knack to try new things, Shirley has the ‘balls’ for that and its paying off for her big time.

Surely it doesn’t cost a thing to try new things or be pace setter but Shirley is able to venture into a new genre, which is comedy and yet excels. This goes to explain that it wasn’t a fluke that she conquered the whole of Africa at the last year’s African Academy Movie Awards.

‘6 Hours To Christmas’ in other words falls in the popular saying that ‘second thoughts are the best’. Having a second thought of whatever you are about to do could be a make or break for you. It could probably be the end of your breakthrough.

Ladies will always implicate guys as cheaters. To me there is nothing like why men cheat, more so the focus should be on why humans cheat. If a woman can boldly offer the ‘thing’ in between her legs as a mere Christmas gift ‘just like that’ when even she was dating a minister close to her dad’s age surely means ladies cheat as well.

The movie opens with a scene of Reggie, a young advertising creative director played by Chris Attoh in bed with his girlfriend Akos played by Marian Lempogo. Before leaving the house to work to enjoy the party organized at his office, his girlfriend promises him dinner and fireworks before the stroke of midnight to make way to the next day, which is Christmas day.

After the office party, Chris meets Pebbles played by Damilola Adegbite, his office colleague, the girl he’s lusted after for a long time. She said to Chris … so where is my Christmas present? Chris responded ‘I thought you were bringing me one’. She then asked Chris to follow her home so she can give it to him.

In her quest to offer the Christmas present Chris finds impossible to refuse sets the tone for the hilarious movie, Shirley describes as ‘Dark Comedy’. The ending of the movie leaves movie enthusiasts to use their thinking cap and it’s up to you to find out how it ends yourself.

Do you have any idea about the best present to give on Christmas? Or are you tired of giving out the same present every Christmas? ‘6 Hours To Christmas’ will give you a clue.

Shirley blends old and experienced actors as well as new budding talents to make a must watch movie. ‘6 Hours To Christmas’ stars Chris Attoh, Damilola Adegbite, Ghana Actors Guild President Nii Odoi Mensah, Sena Tsikata (Played Marcia in Thinks We Do For Love), Marian Lempogo and Benny Ashun.

The movie will premiere October 29, 2010 at the National Theatre.Tickets are available at Koala, Airport Shell and National Theatre for a cool GHC 25.00

‘6 Hours To Christmas’ is the 6th movie written and directed by Shirley Frimpong Manso for Sparrow Productions after Life and Living It, Scorned, Perfect Picture, A Sting in a Tale and Checkmate.

Kobi Rana Comes Again With A Bloody Movie: ’2BAD’

How can one get an experience if he is never given a job? Though it is difficult to entrust full responsibility into someone who has no previous directing skills, there is always a first time to take a shot at something.

Having been given the opportunity to write and direct the movie ‘Kiss Me If You Can’, it gave Kobi Rana, the chance to acquire little experience to help him with his idea of rejuvenating the Ghana Movie Industry.

‘Kiss Me If You Can’ was like a stepping stone for the young creative director and I strongly believe his latest movie ‘2BAD’ will shoot him into the limelight. I believe his success in the movie industry will hinder the progress of his musical group ‘Rana’, because the more higher he goes, the more scripts he will be bombarded with but as they say, it is always prudent not to keep all your eggs in one basket.

Kobi Rana, real name Cornelius Phanthomas in his latest movie directed for A19, he delved deeply into a canker which has eaten deep in the fiber of the society. Ever heard of the name ‘kwachie’ boys?

‘2BAD’ is a story of one orphan Kwabena Asante played by Kobi Rana who lives with his two siblings in a slum in Accra. Kwabena goes through the daily hustle and bustle of life in Accra to provide shelter and food for his siblings. This is what he went through as the older sibling.

However, his younger brother is in a world of his own stealing whatever he lays his eyes on, consequently bringing troubles to his senior brother who already has lots of issues to deal with. Like a typical slum behavioural, his younger brother rapes their little sister. Unluckily for him, he was apprehended and killed immediately during one of his stealing spree.

His raped sister died later, this opens Kwabena to the world. He seeks the help of three other lads who have had their share of torture with society. Together, they decide to take control of their destiny via the dangerous way. When they realized that THE SOLUTION IS WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM, It was “far” too late.

Mostly, how one is treated at his young age determines the kind of person he or she becomes in the future. Per how they were treated, monsters were created out of them hence taking to the streets to fend for themselves in a ruthless manner.

Kobi Rana casted several new but talented faces in this movie. This is because he still believes that “AFRICA CAN MAKE INTERNATIONALLY ACCEPTED MOVIES WITH OR WITHOUT POPULAR FACES” and cited the multiple Oscar award winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ as his perfect example.

‘2BAD’ was written and directed by Kobi Rana for A19 MEDIA. They have produced spectacular television commercials and documentaries over the years. This is just a warm up for the excellence ahead.

I’m not good at rating movies but I recommend this movie.

The movie shows as follows:
Date: 23rd and 24th Venue: Le Rendezvous, Tema Com 11
Date: 29th, 30th, 31st
Venue: TV3 Executive Theatre

Ghanaian Actress Selassie Ibrahim Exposes CEOs In New Movie + Launch Of Smart Talk Show & Lifestyle Magazine

It may surprise some to know that a good number of movies coming to the Ghanaian movie market nowadays are directed by Nigerian movie directors. Some few months back one of the most respected Ghanaian producers openly said he prefers using Nigerian directors than the Ghanaians because, the latter are sub-standard.

Well, the above explains the new trend now. It is no surprise that the direction of the new movie ‘The CEO’ was trusted in the hands of two experienced Nigerian directors, in the persons of John Inzedomi and Afam Okereke.

This movie has lots of lessons to be learnt, especially to career women or women who are in the corporate world. The fact that you starve your husband sexually doesn’t mean he will jump to the next girl and cheat on you. When a man is not cheating but then he is constantly accused of cheating, the idea of cheating, which is a seed, is then planted in his mind. Though, this does not apply to every man, majority will fall for that.

‘The CEO’, a movie from the stables of Smarttys Management & Production Company is a story of Gloria Lee (played by Selassie Ibrahim), as a CEO. An uncompromising, meticulous, principled, demanding and unfriendly woman, who is set to prove to everyone that she can go beyond public expectations of a woman. Gloria is married to her job. She is one hell of a busy woman. She prefers to work at home when she finds herself not doing anything.

Gloria is an annoying character who doesn’t have time for her family and anything. She is so much in love with her job that their intimacy life was virtually non-existent. Gloria won’t make love to her husband and if it happens, it means she wants it. Besides all this, she still has a third eye on the husband, as if he’s cheating.

As if she was married to her job, it was not only her family who were privy to her annoying behavior but her workers also. Working with her is hell itself. She had the penchant for firing her workers at the slightest mistake. There is no second chance in her dictionary.

At her work place, all her workers are constantly under pressure not to err because if that happens, there is no turning back; YOU WILL BE FIRED! Gloria assumes that her workers should be just like she is.

One of her workers Farida Alhassan (played by Nadia Buari) was faced with the choice of sticking to her job to the detriment of losing her demanding boyfriend (James Gardner). Though she is not ready to make any choice, she went through hell to satisfy both parties. The boyfriend’s attitude is so annoying and can force a lady out of any relationship any day, provided she doesn’t have any problem of losing the so called Mr. Right.

Even when she was in a steamy lovemaking ecstasy with her fiancé and in the middle of climax, her boss interrupts them with a phone call. This and other calls are weighing heavily on her neck that it seems like she is about losing her soon-to-be-husband.

Later in the story an argument ensued between Gloria and her husband Larry Lee (Desmond Elliot). She accuses him of sleeping with his actresses. Nothing the man said was taken. The argument got worse and he was told to get out of their home, which he complied.

Two sacked workers then hatched a plan to kidnap Gloria’s daughter and demanded an amount to be released. This idea is to pay Gloria for sacking them from their jobs. The plan worked perfect.

The kidnapping was like the solution to her heartless lifestyle. Why should one wait for something bad to happen to him or her before the person changes the lifestyle? Gloria went through hell with the support of the husband. The police come in to track down the two down with a tracking device which was placed in the money suitcase. The device shows on the computer the exact place of the kidnapers.

***** Honestly, some of the scenes were bit dragged, I hope Selassie Ibrahim will not insult us again with over elaboration scenes in her next movie. But I recommend this movie for all the CEOs, especially to women who are married and want to keep their husbands and make time for their homes.

What does it profit a CEO to gain wealth and without a family (husband and daughter) to enjoy with? The movie is schedule to be premiere on the 23rd of October, 2010 at the Golden Tulip Hotel. The event is STRICTLY BY INVITATION.

Also I will be glad if a copy of this movie can be sent to the Inspector General of Police. I think it’s about time; Ghana police needs to be abreast with modern day gadgets to track down these heartless kidnapers, armed robbers among others.

The movie blends a wonderful cast, including some of the crème de la crème in Nigeria and Ghana’s movie industries. It featured Selassie herself and her daughter Maleeha Mahama, Desmond Elliot, Roselyn Ngissah, Nadia Buari, Ekow Blankson among others.

Launch Of Smart Talk Show & Lifestyle Magazine

A-Plus Insults 4Syte Music Video Awards! Says It’s A ‘Sakawa’ Music Awards & They Are CopyCats Of Charter House

Watch ‘Letter to the West’ Video

The 2nd 4Syte TV Music Video Awards 2010 launch is schedule to come off on the 9th of October 2010 at the Hollywood Lounge, Citizen Kofi. But hiplifer Aplus, known in real life as Kwame Asare Obeng has threw insults to the awards saying “it’s a sakawa awards”.

When the full list of nominations of the second edition of the 4Syte Music Video Awards was released APlus’ ‘Letter to the West’ had two nominations. It was nominated in the ‘Best Male Video’, as well as ‘Best Photography’ categories. Speaking to GhanaCelebrities.com about his nominations, he said he is not enthused about the whole nominations.

In the ‘Best Male Video’, he is nominated alongside Richie with ‘When I Get You’, Samini with ‘Baby’, Kwabena Kwabena with ‘Dadie Anoma’, Tinny with ‘Ringtone’ and Jay Ghartey with ‘My Baby’.

His ‘Letter to the West’ which talks about Horror in Africa; Oppression, Corruption, Dictatorship, Atrocities, Malnutrition was nominated with 4X4 with ‘Fresh One’, Scizo with ‘I Dey 4 U’, VIP with ‘I Think I Like Am’, Samini with ‘Baby’ and Sarkodie with ‘Baby’ in the ‘Best Photography’ category.

The rapper who has been touted as a politically incorrect musician went through the categories and laughed over them. He said “This people are not truthful to themselves. All they want to do is to emulate Charter House”.

Though he had two nominations, APlus bemoaned about being left out in the following categories ‘Best Editing’, ‘Overall Best Video’, ‘Best Directed’, ‘Best African Act’ & ‘Best Collaboration’. He believed since his video has been constantly featured on BBC, CNN & BET, it was wise for the organizers to include the video in the above categories.

Though his video is not placed in the ‘Best Editing’ and ‘Best Directed’, he dared the organizers to go back and watch the videos again and tell him which of the nominated videos in the above named categories are best edited and directed than his video. As far as he is concern, the organizers erred in not placing “himself” and Praye in the ‘Best Collaboration’ category.

He said what the organizers were looking for was for a video where ladies come and show their bum. To him, most of the videos nominated show how bad the whole award is and asked ‘what is the point in awarding a video where the people in the video pretend to be what they are not?’

“Most of them goes to hire big posh cars and use them in their videos and the next minute you see them fighting over trotro”.

He revealed to GhanaCelebrities.com that since he wanted his video to make sense and go with the lyrics in the songs, they travelled to Burkina Faso to shoot the video.

This is his message to Ignace Hego of 4Syte TV. “I say to Ignace that, I don’t need him to give me award and tell me who I am because I know myself. I have over 5000 friends on Facebook, they watch my videos and write on my page, this is enough for me”.

He ended by saying “I don’t want to be part of any ‘sakawa’ awards”.

M3nsa & Wanlov Dropped As Tinny Seals Through For MOBO 2010! But Can He Beat K’Naan & P-Square?

I don’t intend to start another controversy with this one but how popular is Tinny? Is he that better than the Fokn bois duo M3nsa and Wanlov combined together? I beg to differ…

This year’s Music Of Black Origin’s (MOBO) Awards in the Best African Act category had 15 nominees. The numbers have been trimmed down to five. Fokn Bois duo M3nsa and Wanlov Da Koborlor who were initially nominated failed to make the last five since they didn’t acquire enough votes.

According to the organizers of the awards, Tinny is the only artiste from Ghana to make the last five.

Tinny will be fighting with the Somalia born K’Naan, Nigerian’s sensational duo P-Square and JJC and Ethiopian’s Mulatu Astatke for the ‘Best African Act’.

Celebrating its 15th year, the MOBO Awards has helped champion the extraordinary rise of urban music over the past two decades from niche to now leading the UK charts, and will celebrate the cream of British artists from the past years at its star-studded ceremony in Liverpool, on October 20th this year.

The MOBO Tour is set to hit six of the UK’s hottest cities over six days between 13th October and 19th October 2010. By arrangement with Coda and SJM, the tour will be headlined by DJ and Boy Better Know frontmant, Skepta.

The chart-topping emcee will take to the stage alongside a host of fresh, new urban talent. Also on the line is Aggro Santos, Donae’o, Scorcher, Mz Bratt, Jodie Connor, Maverick Sabre, Rough Diamondz, and Angel.
