I Have The Eye To See A Beautiful Lady … And So I Was Made Miss Ghana 2012 Judge – Majid Michel

“They actually said that, I have a beautiful wife so because I have a beautiful wife, I have the eye to see a beautiful lady”, Majid Michel, one of the celebrity guest judges at the Accra auditions for Miss Ghana 2012 said in his usual jovial manner.

And the winner of Miss Ghana 2012 is … not so fast, just hold it. Before the winner is announced, lets pause a little and look at the exciting prizes that the lucky lady would be taking home in addition to the coveted crown.

The would be Miss Ghana 2012 in addition to the first and second runners go home with an official car [one for each], a unspecified sum of money, tickets to London, employment opportunities, branding and ambassadorial opening, elegant household appliances from sponsors of the pageant.

It does not end there. The top three ladies qualify for a full educational scholarship worth several United States dollars to study with one of the best universities in the United States of America.

Also the eventual winner would be accommodated for a year with the two runner ups residing at the Miss Ghana House, which is donated by Manet Properties.

And the icing on the cake for Miss Ghana 2012 is to represent the country in the Miss World 2013. How exciting can it get?

And with the coming in of Exclusive Events Ghana, which is headed by former 2004 winner of the pageant, Inna Patty, it appears the oldest pageant in Ghana has taken its rightful place in the pageantry industry in Ghana in grand fashion.

Auditions for the 2012 edition started in earnest and it’s almost at its zenith. In the Northern Belt which comprises of Upper East, Upper West and the Northern regions, six beautiful young ladies were picked for the finals.

The Southern Belt which comprises of Ashanti, Eastern and Brong Ahafo regions also saw three ladies picked for the national finals. Now auditions are going on for finals ladies to be picked from Accra.

One of the twists in this year’s pageant is that, celebrities have been added to aid in judging the ladies for the final events. Being a proud media partner of Miss Ghana 2012, GhanaCelebrities.Com made a quick visit to the audition grounds at Golden Tulip for an observation.

Indeed, we were taken aback by the number of beautiful ladies ready to be auditioned. “The mad rush for this year’s Miss Ghana is indicative of how prestigious the brand is, and also speaks volume of its leadership role in empowering the Ghanaian lady,” Obed Boafo, Publicist for the Miss Ghana event said.

With over 200 ladies auditioned in Accra, Majid explained, further what they look out for in them.

“We are scrutinizing and screening the ladies to pick the best of the best and there is no compromising whatsoever. We are here to judge them, their intellect as well as their looks to see if it matches. If it doesn’t, you can’t make it through”

According to him, a lady cannot be beautiful and move around with an empty head hence the several auditions to test their intellect and how they talk, how they think on their feet and answer some witty questions.

For Majid who appears judging ladies in a beauty pageant for the first time, conceded the enormous challenges, they [judges] have encountered, partly due to the intelligent nature of the ladies.

DKB Calls Off Shows Due To President Mills’ Death

Ghana’s former Big Brother Representative has been hit emotionally hard by the passing of the President of Ghana the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.

According to his management Ecstasy and Boom Entertainment, he was preparing for 2 private shows slated this weekend, where he would be performing comedy on topics related to current affairs which obviously involves spoofing the system but has been cancelled due to the shock he received when the news of the president’s demise came out officially.

According to DKB “I was deeply hurt and devastated by the news and it felt like I had lost a father even though we biologically and physically we don’t have anything in common except attending the same school i.e University of Ghana.

Uncle Atta is a person who you would admire and have affinity for due to his extreme patience, tolerance and good sense of humor unconsciously because he is a character that bears no grudge with anyone, another factor that that worsened my plight was the death rumor of my mentor Eddie Murphy which later fortunately came out as a hoax.

You would think you know how to handle anger and provocations until you meet Uncle Atta and realize that he doesn’t know those elements exist. The news broke me down emotionally such that I lost appetite to perform on those shows thereby sacrificing them and anything that comes with it as my form of last respect for our lost father”

His last words were, “the whole country will miss him but especially the comedy community because he undeniably provides unlimited materials with his antics for us thereby giving us something to joke about, I will entreat every Ghanaian as a form of respect to him exercise a bit of his attitude in their daily life that’s patience, tolerance and love for the needy. Lastly let’s all rally behind our new president H.E John Mahama to govern the nation well and as he takes us to the polls soon, I hope and pray we have an “Atta Mills-ful elections” to honour his death.

From his management, all fans of DKB should gear up because he is planning to hit Ghana with the BIGGEST comedy show in the history of Ghana with fellow comedians from other African countries flying down to perform with support from hit making musicians from Africa dubbed “DKB n FRENDZ” coming soon !!!!!!.

His Biography
President John Evans Fifii Atta Mills, born 21 July 1944, was the third President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. He was inaugurated on 7 January 2009, after winning the 2008 election. He was Vice-President from 1997 to 2001 under President Jerry John Rawlings, and stood unsuccessfully in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The 68-year-old died a few hours after being taken ill at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Early life, education and academic career
Mills was a Fanti from Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region of Ghana. He was born in Tarkwa on 21 July 1944, located in the Western Region of Ghana. He was educated at Achimota School, where he completed the Advanced-Level Certificate in 1963, and the University of Ghana, Legon, where he received “Black man of the month” several times.

In 1968, Mills studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and received a PhD at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. Thus began the journey of the next twenty years of Mills’ life, which was largely spent with spells both in Ghana and internationally as an academic. Mills earned a Ph.D in Law from London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies(SOAS) after completing his doctoral thesis in the area of taxation and economic development.

Personal life
He was married to Ernestina Naadu Mills, an educator and had a son, Sam Kofi Atta Mills, with Ruby Addo.
He was a good friend to Prophet T.B. Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations in Lagos, Nigeria and regularly visited his church. He said following his inauguration that T.B. Joshua had prophesied to him there would be three elections, the results would be released in January, and he would emerge victorious.

Career as a lecturer
Mills’ first formal teaching assignment was as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana Legon. He spent close to twenty five years teaching at Legon and other institutions of higher learning, and rose in position from lecturer to senior lecturer to associate professor, and served on numerous boards and committees.

Additionally, he traveled worldwide as a visiting lecturer and professor at educational institutions such as the LSE, and presented research papers at symposiums and conferences. In 1971, he was selected for the Fulbright Scholar program at Stanford Law School in the United States Of America.

At the age of 27, he was awarded his PhD after successfully defending his doctoral thesis in the area of taxation and economic development. He returned to Ghana that year, becoming a Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana. He became a visiting professor of Temple Law School (Philadelphia, USA), with two stints from 1978 to 1979, and 1986 to 1987, and was a visiting professor at Leiden University (Holland) from 1985 to 1986. During this period, he authored several publications relating to taxation during the 1970s & 1980s.

Outside of his academic pursuits, Professor Mills was the Acting Commissioner of Ghana’s Internal Revenue Service from 1986 to 1993, and the substantive Commissioner from 1993 to 1996.By 1992, he had become an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Ghana. Mills was also a Fulbright scholar at Stanford Law School.

Vice-President of Ghana
For the inaugural Presidential Elections in 1992, the National Convention Party (NCP) had formed an alliance with the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Former Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) Chairman, and leader of Ghana, Flight-Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings chose the NCP leader, Kow Nkensen Arkaah, as his running-mate for Vice-President. Having been elected in the 1992 elections, Arkaah served between 1992–1996.

However, on 29 January 1996, the NCP broke with the NDC, merging with the People’s Convention Party (PCP) to form a rebirth of the Convention People’s Party (the formerly outlawed political party of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah). Thus, in a bitter split, Arkaah would stand as candidate for the reborn CPP in the 1996 Presidential Elections against Rawlings. Rawlings selected Mills for the vacated Vice-Presidency in his bid for re-election to a second term in Ghana’s 1996 Presidential Election. Rawlings was re-elected to his second term in office, and Mills became Vice-President of Ghana between 1996 to 2000.
Seeking the highest office in Ghana

In 2000, Mills became the NDC’s candidate for the 2000 Presidential elections after Rawlings had served his constitutionally mandated terms as president. At the time, and after essentially two decades of PNDC/NDC rule, the NDC’s war chest for the upcoming elections was certainly much stronger than that of the NPP. The result would clearly between the NDC’s popularity with the people, and Vice-President Mills’ track-record alongside President Rawlings, and the veteran political experience that the NPP candidate would bring to the campaign. The main rival for Vice-President Mills’ own bid for the Presidency was a veteran politician, John

Agyekum Kufuor, who was running as the candidate for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Ghana’s presidential elections in the year 2000 went into two rounds: In the first round, held on 7 December 2000, Mills gained 44.8% of the vote, Kufuor won the first round with 48.4%. This result forced the elections into a two-party run-off vote on 28 December 2000, where Kufuor defeated Vice-President Mills with a result of 56.9% of the vote. The NPP won the election, and Kufuor was sworn in as President of Ghana on 7 January 2001.

In December 2002, John Atta Mills was elected by his party to be its flag bearer and lead them into the 2004 elections.

In 2002, former Vice-President Mills was again selected as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the upcoming presidential elections in 2004. He was however defeated again by President Kufuor, who won by a margin of 52.45%.

On 21 December 2006, former Vice-President Mills became the NDC’s candidate for the 2008 presidential elections, winning his party’s ticket by an 81.4% result. Early polls showed that Mills was the favourite, but in another poll taken just months before the first-round voting, Nana Akufo-Addo emerged as the favourite. Election campaigning was strong, particularly with advertising, which was clearly much heavier with the NPP candidate.

The first round of voting occurred on 7 December 2008. In a very close result amongst all parties, Nana Akufo-Addo’s NPP finished with 49.13% of the vote, close to the outright margin required to win in the first round, while Mills’ NDC finished with 47.92%. The other parties garnered 2.37% of the votes.

The result forced a second-round of voting between NPP and NDC on 28 December 2008. The result was a slim margin held by Mills, but due to problems with the distribution of ballots, the Tain constituency, located in the Brong-Ahafo Region, was forced to re-run its voting on 2 January 2009. The voting in the Tain constituency led to a landslide victory to the NDC.

For several days, the Electoral Commission of Ghana did not call the result to the NDC, and the NPP filed a lawsuit, claiming that “the atmosphere in the rural district was not conducive to a free and fair election”. Eventually, the NPP bowed to the inevitable, and on the morning of 3 January 2009, the election result was finally announced. Former Vice-President John Atta-Mills, who had failed to win in two previous campaigns, made history by winning the 2008 presidential election, becoming the third President of the 4th Republic Of Ghana.

Publications
Mills produced several publications during his life, including:
Taxation of Periodical or Deferred Payments arising from the Sale of Fixed Capital (1974).
Exemption of Dividends from Income taxation: A critical Appraisal (1977) In: Review of Ghana Law, 1997, 9: 1, p. 38–47

Report of the Tax Review Commission, Ghana, parts 1–3 (1977).
Ghana’s Income Tax laws and the Investor. (An inter-faculty lecture published by the University of Ghana)
Ghana’s new investment code : an appraisal (1993) In: University of Ghana Law Journal, 1993, vol. 18, p. 1–29

He also held examiner positions with finance-related institutions in Ghana, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Institute of Bankers, and Ghana Tax Review Commission.
Contribution to sports

He contributed to the Ghana Hockey Association, National Sports Council of Ghana, and Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club. He enjoyed hockey and swimming, and once played for the national hockey team (he remained a member of the Veterans Hockey Team until his death).

Presidency
On 21 December 2006, Mills was overwhelmingly elected by the NDC as its candidate for the 2008 presidential election with a majority of 81.4% (1,362 votes), far ahead of his opponents, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, and Eddie Annan. In 2008, he was elected president of Ghana, after a keenly contested three round election. He died on 24 July 2012 while still in office.

Asamoah Gyan Makes A Come Back To The Ghana National Team

I don’t know if this is good news or not. Information available to GhanaCelebrities.Com says that, Al-Ain striker, Asamoah Gyan has rescinded his decision not to play for the Ghana national team, Black Stars.

The 26 year old former Sunderland striker retired indefinitely from international football in February after getting harsh criticisms from Ghanaians following his penalty miss in the Semi finals of the AFCON 2012 against Zambia. He was consequently blamed for the country’s lose.

He had earlier on missed a penalty at the Quarter finals of the World Cup in South Africa in a match against Uruguay.

He said, “The decision to return was made with the incredible support of my family, friends and the football family of Ghana”.

”I’m happy about the way the GFA handled the issue; they spoke to me and discussed my problems with my family.

“I am fully focused on our clear goals ahead, in helping my nation qualify for both the AFCON 2013 and the World Cup in 2014.”

Do you think Ghana needs Asamoah Gyan  in the team? If the whole country jubilates when he scores, why can’t they castigate him when he messes up?

Why Do We Toast To Good Things With Alcohol? Nadia Buari Asked!

Nadia Buari was the welcomed guest in the Yellow House to visit the Girls over the weekend.  Looking so fashion conscious, there was no way anyone who watched the show could miss how perfectly she matched her ear rings with her hair band, and her bangles with her shoes.

When asked about it by jealous looking Frost, she said, “My mum arranges my outfit. As a manager she makes sure everything is spot on.’

Nadia Buari who started her career some six years ago said; her mum knows when to play mum and when to act as her manager. With a bashful laugh she rebuffed that her mum manages her for free, “she is so business oriented she won’t do that for free. The beauty of the relationship is she knows what cut to take”.

The sassy actress who is so family oriented has four other siblings; two brothers and two sisters. She talked of her mum and sisters who basically critique her smiles to her kisses in movies. She especially talked about her mum not mostly impressed and pushing her to work hard to bring her characters to life.

When given champagne for a toast, Nadia dug down to be her very self by looking into the camera and questioned why we always are “toasting to good things but drinking alcohol to that”. This drew lots of laughter in the Girls house.

She definitely had her groove on the show revealing that she is guilty of being shopaholic and that she buys her shoes herself.

What is her craze with BeyoncĂ©? “Hahaha, that goes beyond what most people expect because I am attracted to her work sense and drives of pushing her dreams. I buy into that not that I just want to be a BeyoncĂ© wannabe, far from that,” she stated unequivocally.

The inner beauty of Nadia was clearly there to see as she answered her questions from the Girls. She spoke of her first kiss being grabby and was very amused at her puppy love reminiscing her early years.

The Girls were also surprised that Nadia also gets crushes on hunks on TV sometimes as she confessed to this. Are they only footballers? Nope! She said, like every other lady when she sees nice looking guys her heart misses a beat whether they are reading news, doing sports, acting or whatever.

Nadia Buari was in a dilemma what to say when asked about heartbreaks. A lot of viewers were expectant she would openly talk about her alleged relationship with Micheal Essien but that never came up. Her response was short, “I have experienced it before and all I would say is, it taught me to know better.”

The Buari family were on the verge of unveiling a Family reality TV show which couldn’t materialize because at the penultimate time, they were all doing different  things and their paths never crossed so they couldn’t settle to get the show recorded but everything else was on course and will be a reality someday. One of her brothers is a rapper who has just released an album and her sister is also in a girl group doing her thing.

Will Nadia Buari ever go into movie production? “I am taking my time to make a good impression when I decide to go into film production because I want whatever movies I come out with to be a keeper of a movie.

I know better and I must make sure quality becomes the benchmark,” she declared.

Although she can’t remember the movies she has done with Nigerians, she offered that working with them is fun because they are so determined and always on the edge of getting things done. The Scandal star sporting a blonde wig said, she doesn’t mind shaving her hair for a role if it is worth it and will tell the story.

It was emotional for her talking about the late Godwin Kotei and her for him as a young lecturer at Legon who she described as very much in tune with his young students and what they need to know.

The shy actress said she was trying hard to connect to her fans off the screen and having challenges with being tagged as a show off which she is not. She said fans should feel free to approach her because she is human and here to serve her fans.

Her difficult role she said was when she had to act as a blind person. Being a perfectionist at her roles, she added that she is yet to get into a challenging role to get really challenged since she started acting.

Nadia is involved in a lot of charity work although she rather this is keep quite because she feels she makes a lot from her talent thus thinks it appropriate to let her wealth go around. She said she doesn’t do anything apart from acting for now although there are other plans yet to be hatched. She didn’t want to talk about coming out with a clothing line or anything like that but she said she really wants to exhaust the film industry.

She talked about her great friendship with former Big Brother All Stars housemate, Confidence Haugen, whom she described as a wonderful person to be around. That notwithstanding, she mentioned her mum as being her best friend with whom she discusses every subject; the men, the stress, investments, sex, gossips and everything!

Nadia Buari is not looking for a perfect gentleman to settle with because she refuses anything like perfect man. “There is no such thing but you can make him perfect to suit you. He should take good care of me as well as honour, compliment and complete me”.  If she finds him she wants to bore him five children.

Information available to GhanaCelebrities.Com indicate that, Ghanaian comedian Derick Kobina Bonney (DKB) who was kicked out of the ongoing Big Brother Stargame reality show would be kick-starting his Anti Violence Campaign soon.

The comedian was disqualified from the show for physically attacking Sierra Leonean female housemate, Zainab after a confrontation.

The fracas started when DKB was taking a shower and Zainab opened the door several times. Though he tried several times to stop her, it proved futile which subsequently ended up in a slap.

A video captured also indicated that, Zainab also slapped DKB in return.

After studying the rules and several meetings between Big Brother and the producers of the show, Endemol, DKB and Zainab were both disqualified for their violence/physical attacks on each other.

He has since recorded an apology song to apologise to Zainab, Ghana and Africa for the unfortunate occurrence.
