Founder Of Ghana Movie Awards Presents Founder’s Merit Awards To Agya Koo, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro & Roselyn Ngissah!

The organizers of the Ghana Movie Awards, Gollywood Production Limited yesterday at the Golden Tulip Hotel presented two brand new SUV Zoyte four wheel drive to deserving Ghanaian actors in a special ceremony.

The Founders Merit Award is a non-competitive category of the Ghana Movie Awards. This was instituted by the founder of the GMA and it is aimed at recognizing efforts and also to encourage actors in pursuit of their movie career.

Majid Michel who won Best Actor In A Lead Role For English Language in his role in “The beast” lost out on the car to Kofi Adu a.k.a. Agya Koo who won the Local Language in the same category as above.
The quartet of Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah got the nod ahead of Rose Mensah a.k.a Kyeiwaa. Agya Koo’s triumphant was in recognition for his role in bringing the movie industry in Ghana back to life.

In attendance were; the members of the GMA Jury, which was made up of experienced industry players. Also, Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa were in attendance with their entourage. Some were clad in Agya Koo Fan Club T-Shirts. Missing in action was Jackie Appiah.

Apart from the two cars, some of the winners and nominees in the following categories Best Actor In English Language (Both Lead And Supporting), Best Actor In Twi Language (Both Lead And Supporting), Best Actress In English Language (Both Lead And Supporting), Best Actress In Twi Language (Both Lead And Supporting) will be clothed with free clothing from Prince Clothing for a year.

MKOGH will also provide 10 times clothing sponsorship for any events they are billed to attend for a year.

Golden Tulip Hotel will provides free gym for all the winners to exercise their body and get fit. SPA 216 will for a year groom and beautify the winners.

XMen is also giving out free clothes for a year. Each nominee of the awards is entitled for a free phone from rLG. House Of Alma will also costume Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah for any movie they are shooting for a year.

Jackie Appiah Disappoint Fans As She Boycotts Founders Merit Awards Presentation! Is She Feeling Too Big To Share 1 Car With Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro & Roselyn Ngissah?

 

Star Actress Jacquelyn “Agyeman” Appiah is known in the Ghana Movie Industry as Jackie Appiah. She is without doubt one of the richest Ghanaian actresses now. She is also one of the few actresses who own fleet of expensive cars.

At present, the actress owns and drives a 2008 model Nissan Murano, an all-wheel drive variant Infinity 2009 model, a £120,000 ultra-modern Range Rover that has the registration number customized in her name.
Putting the above into consideration, then maybe Jackie does not need the SUV Zoyte that the Ghana Movie Awards gave out. Even if she does not need it, was it the reason why she boycotted the presentation of the car?

A short ceremony was put together by the organizers of the rejuvenated Ghana Movie Awards to present to winners a special award dubbed Founders Merit Awards.

The day was to enable the organizers Gollywood Production Limited to present 2 SUV Zoyte 4 wheel drive cars; one to actor Agya Koo and the other to actresses Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim and Roselyn Ngissah.

The Founders Merit Award is a non-competitive category of the Ghana Movie Awards. This was instituted by the founder of the GMA and it is aimed at recognizing efforts and also to encourage actors in pursuit of their movie career.

A day after the awards in a separate meeting, the founder has announced that, he picked Agya Koo ahead of Majid Michel after both actors won Best Actor In A Lead Role in both English and Local Language in their roles in ‘Ama Ghana’ and ‘The Beast’ respectively.

Also, he disclosed to the press, that he has given the nod to the quartet namely; Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah for their role in the ‘4Play’.

At Tuesday’s presentation ceremony to give out the cars to the winners were major players around the organization of the awards, some actors, directors, well wishers, as well as award winners but conspicuously missing was star Actress Jackie Appiah.

According to reliable information available to GhanaCelebrities.Com, the Actress who has been earlier on informed of the presentation failed to attend the ceremony without informing the organizers she could not be there.
Though Jackie failed to turn up, her stock characters in the movie were there to witness the presentation of their car.

Juliet Ibrahim and Kyeiwaa who were not at the awards on the 25^th of December, 2010 were presented with their statuettes. The former didn’t attend the event because she was had given birth to her first child but for the latter; speaking in Twi which literally translates “It wasn’t my fault I couldn’t make it to the Ghana Movie Awards. It is because [I’m sick]”. This, she said in a rather comic way. Well, she couldn’t be bothered, the woman acts good in Twi movies.

In arriving at the decision to give the cars to the winners, the founder, Mr. Fred Nuamah acknowledged that the car is a gift to facilitate the winner’s movement, motivate and spur them on to greater heights.
How can four actresses share one car? This was a question lingering on the minds of the general public. Though the founder of the awards acknowledged this unfortunate event, he told GhanaCelebrities.com that, he had decided to give the two cars to the Twi Language movie makers and the English Language movie makers respectively.

What he didn’t envisage was four actresses being winners in that category. He therefore asked Ghanaians to comprehend that, the car is for the category.

The keys to the two SUV Zoyte were presented to the deserving winners after they read and signed the Terms and Conditions. However, GhanaCelebrities.com has been trying to get Jackie on the phone but her phone has been off since the presentation.

We will still try to get the reason why she failed to attend this important ceremony.

Most Popular Entertainer Of Ghana (MPEG) Launched! Agya Koo, Asamoah Gyan & Co. To Be Honoured

 

Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana (MPEG), a new awards scheme to honour Ghanaian professionals in the fields of music, football, boxing, movie, theatre and broadcasting has been launched in Accra.

Like any other awards scheme, MPEG is to commend and honour individuals in the above mentioned disciplines who excelled in 2010. It is a cross-discipline honours and not aiming at competing with any existing or upcoming awards scheme.

The MPEG College which is made up of professionals and watchers of the various disciplines in Ghana use their experience and active involvement in their chosen fields last year to nominate those who most excelled. The public then would be called upon to help choose the finalists and then the ultimate entertainer in 2010 through text and online voting.


The nominations was be done by the College and voting by the public to choose those to be honoured. The College has therefore nominated personalities for the various disciplines to be honoured as mentioned above.

• Most Entertaining Film Acting Personality of the Year:

This is the film actor/actress voted by the public as the most outstanding and entertaining actor or actress in 2010. He or she should have starred in a film released in the year 2010 in which he or she was entertaining and showed very good acting abilities and has considerable national appeal.

• Most Entertaining Stage Acting Personality of the Year:

This is the stage actor/actress voted by the public as the most popular and entertaining stage actor or actress in 2010. He or she should have acted in a stage production in 2010 on a stage that commanded not less than 500 audience in which he or she was entertaining and showed very good acting abilities with considerable stage appeal.

• Most Entertaining Comedy Personality of the Year:

This is the comedy personality adjudged by the College as the funniest, most popular and entertaining in 2010. He or she should have been the funniest person on stage in his or her own comedy show, appearing in one or more comedy shows on stage or television or played funny roles in a local movie, television show, radio programme or any stage production.

• Most Entertaining Music Personality of the Year:

This is the music artiste adjudged by the College as the most popular and entertaining individual musician or group in 2010. He/she or the group should have either released a song/album or performed at one or more events where he or she was popular, entertaining and commanded considerable national appeal.

• Most Entertaining Radio Broadcast Personality of the Year(Accra/Tema, Kumasi, Sekondi/Takoradi):

This is the radio broadcaster adjudged by the College as the most popular and entertaining in 2010. He or she should have worked on radio as a host of a day part programme, current affairs or talk show presenter, news caster or music DJ during 2010 and should have been entertaining and commanded considerable regional appeal.

• Most Entertaining Television Broadcast Personality of the Year:

This is the television broadcaster adjudged by the College as the most popular and entertaining in 2010. He or she should have worked on television as host of a current affairs programme, talk show presenter, news caster or music VJ during 2010 and should have been entertaining and commanded considerable national appeal.

• Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana:

The Ghana’s Most Popular Entertainer is the individual or group adjudged by the College as the most popular entertainer in 2010. He or she should be among those nominated by the College from the respective professions of football, boxing, film, theatre, comedy, music, radio and television and voted for by the public. The person or group should have demonstrated ultimate showmanship, was popular and commanded crossover appeal.

• Lifetime Achievement Honour:

This is an individual adjudged by the College as a consummate entertainer and a significant contributor to Sports, Music, Film, Television, Theatre and Broadcasting over the years.

• Entertainment Support Institutions Honour:

This is an institution adjudged by the College as a major and a significant contributor to Sports, Music, Film, Television, Theatre and Broadcasting over the years.

2010 In Review: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly feat “The DumbAss Queen” Of The Year!

2010 is coming to an end today and I will be looking at what went down in the Ghanaian Entertainment Industry in this post. I wish I can talk about everything but no, it’s not possible, so I will just highlight some of them and leave the rest.

The year 2010 was one interesting year. It was a booming year for the entertainment industry in Ghana without any doubt; a lot of collaborations between the Ghanaian and the Nigerian counterpart in the movie field as actors from these countries invaded both industries.


The year ended with resurgence of ‘twi’ (locally produced movies) hitting it hard with Agya Koo and Mr. Beautiful in fore front with the English movies. In 2010, I stepped on lots of toes but what are toes if not meant to be stepped on.

One funny thing I noticed in 2010 was that, some unscrupulous personalities in Ghana thought the court room is their family houses or their bedrooms and threatened several times to drag GhanaCelebrities.Com there for our publications. We have come to the end with no law suite…(Huraah!!!)

The law is no respecter of persons, its there to protect everyone, including us. I also encountered fake people. Yeah fake because when you write something favourable about them, they do not call you but when you write something they consider as bad, they suddenly know your contact lines. Too fake and funny but we are ready for them in 2011.

Here is a little highlight of events that happened in 2010 in the Ghana Entertainment Industry tagged ‘the good’, ‘the bad’, and ‘the ugly’.

THE GOOD:
Ghana’s rap doctor Okyeame Kwame kick started his ‘OK In Your Zone’ tour at Kumasi, moved to Takoradi and ended at Sunyani. The sole aim of the tour was to raise funds to support his free Hepatitis B screening campaign. At each venue, free screening exercises (the clinics) takes place in the morning and the musical event takes place in the evening. The idea was to create awareness and educate the people on Hepatitis B through entertainment.

2010 also saw most celebrities coming out of their shell to organize birthday parties. Amongst them were Samini, Lydia Forson, Vicky Zugah, Nadia Buari but of course two of the parties touched my heart.

One is Khareema Aguiar’s birthday party for the aged at HelpAge Ghana at Osu. The actress touched the heart of the aged. I cried in me.

The second one was from Jackie Appiah who went around town to donate to the less privileged in the society on her birthday. It is easier to understand why Jackie is loved by at least majority of Ghanaians.

P-Square’s performance at the Vodafone 020 Live was my favourite show of the year, until Abrantie Amakye Dede killed it on the 27 December, 2010.

2010 saw lots of albums releases, artistes such as Morris D’Voice, Trigmatic, Samini, Eazzy, Richie, D’Black, Knii Lante, Rhian Benson but I think Home & Away By Morris D’Voice is a great album though not well promoted, I’m sure the Record of the Year or Song Writer at the Ghana Music Awards 2011 will come from this album. Rick Ross, the Teflon Don was also in Ghana.

How can I forget that Ms. Shirley Frimpong Manso gave birth in 2010 with Chris Attoh’s brother Ken Attoh.

Juliet Ibrahim also gave birth few weeks to the end the year. New baby mothers, good year huh? And oh Kwabena Kwabena also got married again. Laughs!

Oh yes, GhanaCelebrities.Com discovered that Samini has married two women without each knowing. He has a child with each. (The power of being a celeb in Ghana)

THE BAD:

Okyeame Kwame who won the Artiste of the Year 2009 handed the baton to Sarkodie as he became the first musician in Ghana to win the Artiste of the Year with a debut album.

He also won the Discovery of the Year. I still think Sarkodie doesn’t deserve all the awards. To give him the Best Rapper was the greatest anomaly in the history of the awards.

The Best Rapper should be able to rap for everybody to understand him, not few people. Talking about Sarkodie, he made some silly mistake by saying that; he is more listened to than the president of Ghana at the Vodafone 020 LIVE press conference. Yes! But who is he to say what he said?

We talked about it and he recorded a dissing ‘Letter to my fans’ track to us. Later we reported again that, he has shunned/slapped his manager Dr. Duncan of XFM, he again came back with another diss song ‘useless rumours’, calling us useless people from the gutters. I call this the comic of 2010.

Ghana’s own Jackie Appiah, Naa Ashorkor and Lydia Forson were nominated together as one in Best Actress In A Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria for their roles in the movie Perfect Picture. They won that category.

That was the first time seeing the above scenario, were three people were nominated as one for a single award. I stand to be corrected though. It was very interestingly to note but I thought that was unusual.

It also came out that, the organizers had not planned or made provision for statuettes to be presented to the three. This development created a rift between the fans of the three actresses back here in Ghana with words that one person claims to have won that award instead of the three of them.


AND THE UGLY:
Confidence Haugen and Ayigbe Edem love-turned-sour-phone-recording-rumpus. I don’t see the big deal if Confidence begged Edem not to jilt her but I consider it as ugly because of the way she carried it.

One of the biggest stories in 2010 was the ACTRESS IN A SEX TAPE WITH A NIGERIAN MAN. Though the video nerver came out, I wish I was that Nigerian man! Laughs.

Unannounced power cuts (Light Offs) also marred some events in the country in 2010. Zigi exposure party at the Aphrodisiac Night Club, the premiere of Flash Fever, the launch of VIP’s Progress album at the Boomerang Night Club, the Akosua Agyapong @ 20 Concert at the Conference Centre all suffered power cuts.

Sadly in 2010, Bob Johnson (Bob J) died. He died through a bike accident. I have said over and over again, if bikes are the only means of transportation then I will always walk. Regardless of this, his death touched Ghanaians, especially those in the movie industry. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

I don’t understand why Akwapim rapper Pope Skinnie is still walking freely on the streets of Accra when he is a Ghana’s version of Chris-Vincent, no I meant Chris-Brown (woman beater).

The women gender activists are jokers if this guy is still allowed to walk freely just like that after beating Efua Hiagbe. Though I detest women beaters, the chorus of his track “My Ghanaian Girls” is just too much.

Charter House must check who they employ to guard the gates during their events, especially Ghana Music Awards and Miss Malaika. These two brought lots of mixed feelings and anxiety to Ghanaians.

Musician King David was dirty slapped by those Togolese bouncers. How can you employ people to an English speaking country when they cannot speak English?

Also, Hip life duo Bradez were manhandled and nearly refused entrance at the GMA. I was handcuffed by the authority of one GODFRED who works at Charter House, because I had lost my exit ticket. This man will pay back in his own coin….

Why should mere watchmen/bouncers carry handcuffs around? Bulldog of Bullhaus, a worker at Charter House was slapped by these unscrupulous security men at the Ghana Rocks show.

Confidence Haugen of Aphrodisiac Night Club’s bouncers were seen with handcuff at Takoradi. It is amazing to realize that in 2010, handcuff was not made only for the Police Service. Soon you will hear, GhanaCelebrities.Com’s  representative in Ghana “Ebenezer Anangfio Jnr” carries his own handcuffs too.
Another low point in 2010 for me was Kwasi Aboagye; the presenter of Peace FM’s Entertainment Review saying all the awards at GMA should have been given to Sarkodie, when he is part of those who has over the years complained when numerous awards went to same chain of artistes; such an unthinkable and unforgivable speech.

Martha Ankomah deserves to be crowned the “Dumb Ass of 2010”.She disrespected the media during the press screening of Luckie Lawson’s movie ‘Silence Is Golden’ to an unimaginable extent but Yvonne Nelson snatched it from her with both hands, which explain why she is banned for a whole year.
GhanaCelebrities.Com therefore crowns Yvonne Nelson the official “Dumb Ass of 2010”. She got herself banned for a year, what a dumb ass move.

Do you still remember the reason Joshua Clottey gave when he broke our hearts by losing to Manny Pacquiao? And oh, Asamoah Gyan nearly killed us all with his penalty miss at the World Cup.

Ghana Movie Awards Nominees Release Party On Friday At Golden Tulip Hotel

All is set for the announcement of nominees for the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards to be held at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 8pm.

The strictly-by-invitation Nominees Release Party will reveal the final list of potential award winners. The event will bring together all nominees, the media and industry stakeholders, and seek to set the platform for discussions about who deserves which award come Christmas Day at the Accra International Conference Center.

Ghana Movie Awards was officially launched by the deputy Minister for Information, Hon. James Agyinim Boateng at the Alisa Hotel on September 30, 2010. October 2010 was reserved for submission of entries, while recently, a 50-member Screening and Nomination Committee (SNC) screened and shortlisted 96 movies entered across the country to 46.

Nominees in over 25 categories will be announced on Friday. Voting begins immediately after the announcement. The general public and the Jury/SNC will then be called to vote in various percentage compositions. Final votes will be collated by a renowned event statistician who will unveil the award winners on the stage at the Accra International Conference Center on Saturday December 25, 2010.

Ghana Movie Awards 2010 is organized by GP Ltd and Image Consortium in partnership with Multi TV Cine Afrik.

Ghana Movie Awards 2010 Nominations Out: Jackie Appiah, Majid Michel, Adjetey Anang, Nadia Buari, Yvonne Okoro, Ama K Abebrese & Co In There!

With Ghana flags hoisted all over the place yesterday, one thing was certain. That is, whatever was happening was of national interest and yes, it was the nominations party of the upcoming Ghana Movie Awards!
The event might not have started on time as scheduled but attendance was impressive. After words from the organizers and the chairman of the Planning Committee, the nominees were announced.
As you might say, usual players in the industry made their way into the nominations.
Ghana’s current top actor Majid Michel, Senanu Gbedawo, J.O.T Agyemang, Prince David Osei, Eddie Nartey, Van Vicker and Ruffy Samuel were nominated in the ‘Best Actor in a leading role’ for English language.
Also Agya Koo known in real life as Kofi Adu is nominated alongside Akwesi Boadi A.K.A Akrobetu, Francis Kusi, Timothy Bentum and Ebenezer Donkor in the ‘Best Actor In A  Leading Role’ for local language.
Jackie Appiah leads his girls Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah in 4 Play in the ‘Best Actress In A Leading Role’ for English language. Also in that category are Martha Ankomah, Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu, Ama K. Abebrese, Lydia Forson and Luckie Lawson.
