Lydia, Jackie, Naa Ashorkor & Majid Express Joy At AMAA Nominations

Did the organizers of the African Movie Academy Award preconceived this year’s edition of the awards is all going to be about Ghana? I don’t think so but the reality is that Ghana tops with 11 nominations.

This year’s could possibly be the turning point for Ghana. 500 movies were submitted to be considered for the African Movie Academy Awards, the number was trimmed down to 280 movies among those are 5 Ghanaian movies in serious contention.

‘I Sing of a well’ tops the nominations with 11, Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Perfect Picture’ and ‘A Sting in A tale’ had 8 and 3 nominations respectively. The pointless controversial movie ‘Heart of Men’ had 5 nominations.

Lydia Forson was nominated with Jackie Appiah and Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku in their roles in Sparrow Production’s ‘Perfect Picture’ in the category ‘Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role’ alongside Akofa Edjeani Asiedu with the movie ‘I sing of a well’. All these actresses expressed their joy at the nominations to GhanaCelebrities.com

Lydia Forson said “We just have to give thanks to God, I am really excited”.

Asked if that’s all she can say, she said with smiles “I mean if I have to give thanks to God, who else? Yes am excited, that’s why am giving thanks to God. You do a lot of hard work and you pray that someone recognizes you and when they do, am very humble, probably am not shouting but I have my own way of expressing myself, am really humble”.

Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku in the hub of her excitement said “I am very happy I was nominated, am very thankful to everybody who was here to support us”.

“To the Ghanaian audience, they were very supportive to all the Ghanaian nominations, we want to thank you a lot and we hope and pray we bring the awards to Ghana this year”.

Majid Michel was nominated from the movie ‘Sin of a soul” for the ‘Best Performance By An Actor In A Leading Role’ alongside his compatriot John Osei Tutu Agyeman for a role in ‘I Sing of a well’.

Seated close to his beautiful wife, Majid said in a low tone “I feel very proud, my competitors are very strong, I just hope this one takes a good turn”.

Asked about his chances of winning the award, he said “That’s up to the judges, you can never tell”.

Jackie Appiah said this year is her second year running in the AMAA and it can only get better for her.

Eazzy Ends Tour At Aphrodisiac Night Club

The numbers of female artistes in Ghana are growing considerably. Also there are several elements which contribute to the success of any female artiste, one is looks and Eazzy has it abundantly.

She doesn’t need to show her cleavage to be noticed, she gets the attention she wants anytime she is on stage doing her own thing backed with a strong instrumentation from Richie.

Eazzy might not have an album yet to her credit but currently she is riding high and has managed to create a niche for herself. Eazzy was born Mildred Ashong.

She would tell you she likes to take things easy hence the name Eazzy. No doubt her performances are easy, which is set to live longer on the minds of her audience.

It would be a complete joke to list the names of the best female performers in the Ghana now without mentioning Eazzy. Though she is yet to announce herself fully with an album, she has managed to etch her name as one of the best female artistes in the game.

Eazzy has two singles ‘Bo Wo Nsem Ma Me’ and ‘Wengeze’. ‘Bo Wo Nsem Mame’ which brought her into the Ghana Music Industry. As she prepares to launch her third single in March to pave way for the official launch of her debut album in May, the strikingly looking Eazzy embarked on 4 city club tour making stops at Sunyani, Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra.

At the plush Aphrodisiac Night Club inside Dzorwulu, Eazzy brought her tour to an end with a massive performance from her and assisted by Lynx entertainment family stars.

What has been known as Lynx’s anthem ‘Fire’ a track on OJ Blaq’s album featuring Lynx all stars got the night underway before OJ Blaq, Richie and Asem performing to the crowds. Zigi was conspicuously missing but it didn’t take anything away from the show which was well attended.

After Hiding For Weeks, Castro Spotted At Aphrodisiac Night Club

After secretly wedding a Canada based Ghanaian girl “Awura Abena” at the Roman Catholic Church at Akim Swedru and keeping himself away from the public to enjoy his honeymoon, Castro resurfaced last night at Aprodisiac Night Club.

Looks like the honeymoon is now over as the rapper called Ghana’s 50 Cent Castro Destroyer was spotted by GhanaCelebrities.com in a company of a lady believed to be his wedded wife, the lady he married secretly at Swedru, where a journalist was nearly beaten for trying to take pictures.

This is the first time the rapper is seen in public after his secret wedding. In his efforts to avoid being noticed by his colleagues and reporters, Castro and his wife disowned the VIP lounge and spent ample time behind the club speakers.

An order in the Aphrodisiac Night Club boldly written ‘No Camera Allowed” prevents people from going in the club with a camera. However, GhanaCelebrities.com managed to get these two pictures. The rapper was seen occasionally doing his squatting dances.

The couple looked happy and really in love. Ghanacelebrities.com once again wishes Castro a happy marriage.

Mzbel is a ‘Saucy’ Girl

Mzbel simply means Miss Belinda, born Belinda Amoah is going through a couple of faces and she’s still doing pretty well. Aside that, it was just colourful at the Boomerang Night Club as the sexy girl and other artistes on the Paradise Entertainment, Mimi, 4×4, VIP and Quata performed in solidarity to help their label mate launch her latest album ‘Saucy Girl’.

After some photo shoot and several chit-chats, Mimi who is nominated in the discovery of the year in the Ghana Music Awards performed two of her songs, ‘DJ’ and ‘Leave Me Alone’. 4×4’s Captain Planet who is featured on ‘Leave Me Alone’ came on stage to do his rap.

Mimi left the stage after the second song, Abortion and Fresh Prince then joined Captain Planet to deliver their hit song ‘World Trade Centre’ followed by ‘Fresh Ones’.

The crowds were in the zenith of ecstasy and then entered VIP (Vision in Progress). They performed ‘Ahomka Wom’ and ‘I Think I Like Am’. The crowds requested for ‘Besin’ but they had to vacate the stage for the sexiest lady.

She revisited her past albums and performed songs from both albums from Awoso Me to 16 Years to Yopoo to E Dey Be to Saucy Girl to Runaway. She brought out the mannerism of a 16 years old girl like she said in one of her songs ‘I be 16 years, I go dey be like this o, If you touch my thing o, I go tell Mummy o, I be 16 years, I go dey be like this o, If you touch my thing o, I go tell Poppy o’.

Quata who is featured on two songs Sexy Thing and Turn Me On joined her to perform those tracks. If you were part of the large crowds at the Boomerang Night Club, you would just believe that Mzbel is 16 years. Until I went to the Boomerang Night Club, I thought bikini was only worn at beach but Mzbel proved me wrong.

She satisfies the adage ‘old wine, sure does taste good’. Time and experience has given her much confidence and the stage craft, she was really in her element backed by her sexy dancers, Mzbel thrilled the large club goers with what she is known for.

She is by far one of the gifted and sexiest ladies in the game. Forget what you have heard or seen before, she rocked the Boomerang Night Club with her sex appeal moves which occasionally drew applause from the crowd, made up of mostly ladies.

Her debut album was ‘Awoso Me’ which got her awarded in Uk and. The second album was titled ‘16 years’ with songs like ‘Yopoo’, and the title track.

E Dey Be’ was her third album which featured Castro on the title track. Now ‘Saucy Girl’ is Mzbel’s fourth album and latest album. It has diverse songs on it, with tracks like ‘Run Away’; also the video of the track has been enjoying airplay since last year.

The album has 10 beautiful tracks and is one of her biggest albums so far, it is also the biggest thing to happen in the nation.

“Sarkodie Will Be My Biggest Contender” – Ayigbe Edem

Before the final categories and nominations were announced by the organizers of the prestigious music awards in Ghana at the Golden Tulip Hotel, there was little argument as to who wins what come 10th April 2010. Ayigbe Edem and Sarkodie were two artistes whose names were on the lips of every music lover so far as the ‘Discovery of the Year’ is concerned.

The nominees in that category as was announced by the organizers are gospel musician DSP Kofi Sarpong, Ghana’s former representative to the Big Brother Africa house, Ewe rapper Ayigbe Edem, OJ Blaq, the actor turned rapper and Sarkodie who is touted by many as the fastest rapper in Ghana.

Several high profile individual in the music fraternity including Asem, who won the accolade, last year disagrees with Richie of Lynx Entertainment on separate interviews with GhanaCelebrities.com. The former tipped Ayigbe Edem on the grounds that he has been able to sustain the Ewe language, a language less people speak in Ghana.

Richie believes among all the artistes who came up last year, Sarkodie has done more and deserves the award.

In an interview with GhanaCelebrities.com just after the final nominations, Ayigbe Edem revealed that Sarkodie would be his biggest contender especially as they both happens to be home boys.

“I think my biggest contender in that category is my own homeboy Sarkodie” he said with a straight face.

The Ewe rapper who was accused of stealing a phone alleged to worth $14,000 by his former girlfriend “Confuse” Haugen which contributed to their breakup acknowledged that a lot of people have done well under the year review.

“I think a lot of people have done well over the year, I have been around and Sarkodie has been around”.

“We both came out together and we are in competition for the same position, so I think he is a worthy adversary and the competition is going to be keen but nothing you can do is to hope for the best and wait for that day”.

The Discovery of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Selection Committee, Planning Committee and the general public as the artiste(s) most promising and talented new artiste(s). The award goes to the artiste(s) who made most impact with his/her first commercial release (single/album) during the year under review.
