Mad Rush For Okyeame Kwame As ‘OK In Your Zone’ Rocked Takoradi
On Friday, the 3rd of December 2010 far away at Takoradi, over 5,000 fans besieged the Jubilee Park to catch a glimpse of their favourite rapper favourite’s rapper Okyeame Kwame.
The ongoing Hepatitis B free screening, the first exercise from the Okyeame Kwame Foundation (OKF) was in Takoradi as ‘OK In Your Zone’ made a stopover at the Jubilee Park. The three cities tour dubbed ‘OK In Your Zone’ kick started in Kumasi with an impressive crowd and schedule to end in Sunyani.
The crowd in Takoradi was off the hook. If am not exaggerating, I would have said when you divide Takoradi into 4, one portion made it to the Jubilee Park to watch Okyeame Kwame and his friends perform after the day’s successful Hepatitis B free screening exercise.
Market Square, the most crowded market in Takoradi was the venue for the screening. Indeed, attendance was impressive as usual; both old and young came in to find out their status.
The start of the musical event (show) was delayed by rain but when Kwame got to the venue with his entourage; the crowds were still there in the rains waiting for the rap doctor to give them the reason why they had travelled from other towns to see the show.
Some had already paid their GHC 5.00 waiting for the show to start and others flocked the gate waiting to see the rap doctor before making payment. Upon noticing him, some mobbed him as others pay to enter the venue. The trouble-free crowd gave the security officials a tight day.
Since, Kwame hails from Oseikrom (Ashanti Region), I thought the crowd in Kumasi did a pretty good job by attending the show in their numbers but I was amazed by the attendance in Takoradi.
The moment they were all waiting for arrived! The Best Rapper Alive was called to mount the stage and the crowd went gay. Even the ones outside were as twice excited. The organizers were forced to hold a chit chat, after which the crowd outside were allowed to enter.
This measure, according to them was to forestall any unfortunate incidence or stampede. Some crazy ones wanted to join him on stage, whiles other cheer him on with this words ‘You are indeed the best’, ‘OK OK OK OK’, ‘Ghana’s best’.
From one song to the other for close to an hour, Okyeame Kwame made the night a memorable one for the people of Takoradi. They have had a successful holiday courtesy the rap doctor.
Bradez, Mimi, Obour, Kofi B and Stunnas were all there to support Okyeame Kwame. The musical concert was aired live on Skyy Power 93.5 FM.
The tour is sponsored by the biggest telecommunication network in Ghana, MTN. GhanaCelebrities.com is proud to be part of this experience.
….And Takoradi was another success story for the ‘OK In Your Zone’ tour; catch the train in Sunyani on the 11th of December, 2010 at Cultural Centre.

2 Reasons Why Sarkodie Will Lose The MAMAs
It was worrisome to observe that of all the musical talents abound in Ghana, the organizers could only pick one artiste from Ghana in the upcoming 3rd edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards With (Airtel) Zain (MAMAs). Sounds interesting to me but are the organizers really the ones to be blamed? Whatever criteria, they used might be anti-Ghana.
As good as Ghanaian musicians are, they always play second fiddle to the population inflated Nigerians. Awards in Africa suggests that Nigeria and to a large extent South Africa are on top of the music game. Ghana’s position so far as these awards are concerned doesn’t look encouraging.
No matter how much sentiments Ghanaians show, it will still not change anything.
Ghanaian musicians have always had nominations since the inception of the awards. In the maiden edition in 2008 ‘Kwaw Kese’ was nominated in the ‘Best New Act’ category. Ofori Amponsah’s song ‘Odwo’ was nominated in the ‘Listener’s Choice Award’.
Though they all failed to win their respective categories, Samini made name for himself as the first Ghanaian to win, as he was adjudged as the ‘Best Live Performer’ in Africa in 2009.
As event unfolds to make way for the 11th of December 2010, fans of Sarkodie or Ghanaians in general will stay glued and wait patiently for the category he is nominated in to be mentioned.
Sarkodie is nominated alongside Wande Coal from Nigeria, Daddy Owen of Kenya and South African’s Big Nuz in the ‘Best Anglophone‘. Ghanaians will be much interested and hope to hear, ‘the winner for the best Anglophone is … Sarkodie’.
But before Ghanaians continue to dream, let’s go through the 2 main reasons why Sarkodie might not win the MAMAs. This is not about who detests who. I will try as much as possible to be objective and it is only people in denial that will think otherwise.
Reason 1: Voting
Can any country in Africa compete with Nigeria when it comes to mass voting? For whatever reasons, Ghanaians don’t like voting. And any competitions that winners have to be decided by voting means the best does not always wins. This is not to mean any recipient of any awards, doesn’t merit it.
The Ghana man doesn’t like vote, when he or she does, it is because they like you, not because you are the best and deserves to win. I don’t want to blame the lack of voting in Ghanaians as the result of high tariffs charged by the telecommunication networks. I think it’s a natural habit of Ghanaians.
Maybe a different story would have been told if Ghanaians had voted for Nii (Joe) and Kesse during the MTN Project Fame West Africa season 1 and 2 respectively.
Perhaps Sammi B would have won or gone far in the first Big Brother Africa. Perhaps Ghana would not have gone to the Channel O awards and come home with nothing, but can Ghanaians votes surpass the Nigerians?
Samini deservedly won the Best Live Performer last year because that category was not voted for.
Reason 2: Popularity
Just like Ghana Music Awards which is popularity based awards; Sarkodie’s popularity will be tested on the continent. The second reason why he might not win this award is because he is only known and famous in Ghana, not really known on the continent.
Can the popularity of Wande Coal in Ghana and in Africa be contested? A school of thought says he is even popular than Sarkodie in Ghana. People on the streets I spoke to, agreed Sarkodie is good. They like him because he is a Ghanaian but likes Wande Coal’s songs more.
From my honest point of view, I think Wande Coal is the favourite to win this one (This is not to rule out the other nominees).
If Sarkodie doesn’t win the award, it will be because of the two reasons above, however, I will be ready for a surprise package.
People say, Sarkodie will win because he is signed on to Akon’s Konvict Music. Whether he is signed on Akon or not will not make any difference.

Okyeame Kwame Shocks Fans In Kumasi! Performs With A Live Band
There is a saying that ‘He who climbs a good tree, is given a push’. This saying was given a meaning as the people of Kumasi and its surrounding areas converged at the Golden Tulip Hotel to support one of their own.
The tour is dubbed ‘OK In Your Zone’ and the sole aim is to raise funds to support his ongoing free Hepatitis B screening campaign. The Kumasi show was the first of the three cities tour. The show attracted mostly the youth who seems to have missed their ‘favourite rapper’ and were willing to even pay more than the GHC 5.00 charged at the gate, just to support a worthy cause.
At each venue, the free screening exercises (the clinics) took place in the morning and the musical event followed in the evening. Basically, the idea behind this is to create awareness and educate the people on Hepatitis B through entertainment.
Earlier on in the day at Kumasi, free hepatitis B screening was held at the forecourt of Prempeh Assembly Hall (Fox FM). Over 500 people were screened for the hepatitis virus; education and advice were offered to the affected persons.
The show which was for a seated audience was well attended; Bradez, Mimi, Obour, Agya Koo Nimo, Morris D’Voice, Kofi B, Bertha offered a helping hand to one of Ghana’s greatest linguist Okyeame Kwame.
After staggering performances from the supporting musicians, Stone of Bradez fame exerted lots of pressure on the shoulders of the ‘Rap Doctor’ but then when he came on stage, he conquered his own show. Watching Stone represent both himself and his brother Kunta Kinte, one thing comes to mind: who the hell says, he’s the fastest rapper in Ghana?
Like ‘I-miss-you-fashion’, the audience welcomed the MTN and Coca Cola brand ambassador on stage. His performance on the night could be described as best in recent times. No wonder, he is called Mr. Versatility.
Kwame started with ‘Masan Aba’, a track he did together with his former partner in the rap duo Akyeame. Slowly, he managed to get the audience involved.
Kwame performed with a live band, in what he describes as ‘hybrid’ presentation. ‘Hybrid’ is a CD playback fused with some live instruments. This presentation is believed to be popular with foreign musicians, though not very popular in Ghana.
Performing with a live band was perhaps surprising to many, notably people who thought hip lifers are only good in miming on stage, GhanaCelebrities.com gathered..
Kwame was able to entertain the crowd for over an hour with his live band presentation. The standing ovation offered to him confirms that, indeed, he is one of the best entertainers in his league.
Even before being ushered unto the stage as the next performer, 5 people out of the thousand had earlier on been invited to the stage to imitate the rap doctor. It came out that, there is only one best rapper alive and that is OKYEAME KWAME.
The Hepatitis B screening is the first exercise from the Okyeame Kwame Foundation (OKF) which was launched earlier this year. The foundation is a non-governmental organization that seeks to counsel, create awareness and screen Hepatitis B.
The tour is sponsored by the biggest telecommunication network in Ghana, MTN. GhanaCelebrities.com is proud to be part of this experience and we are following the tour throughout.
Be on the look out, if you see Okyeame Kwame somewhere near your neighborhood then you know it’s all about ‘OK In Your Zone’.
The tour continues in the following towns …
Jubilee Park, Takoradi on 3rd December, 2010.
Cultural Centre, Sunyani on 11th December, 2010.

Hitz FM 103.7 To Unearth Talents With ‘Hitz Discovery’
Ghana has a lot of budding talents in the areas of singing, rapping, acting, modeling, etc but who to discover, encourage and nurture these talents to the next level has always been a major problem. Well, you can blame it sometimes on lack of funds.
In Ghana, reality shows keep springing up every now and then with a common concept. Winners are picked show after show, prizes given and what is next is never known. That becomes the end of the road for the winners.
As we all know, it cost a lot to market or promote the final product than even being in the studios. Is there anyone ready for these marketing and promotional problems? Well, we have a “yes” from Hitz FM as they prepare to unearth musical talents with the launch of their reality show dubbed ‘Hitz Discovery’.
The sole aim of the reality show is to scout for raw musical talents, nurture and make them stars. Like other reality shows which have restrictions like age, Hitz Discovery comes with no restrictions. All you need is to have the talent.
‘Hitz Discovery’ is not only about singing. It welcomes all genre of music, be it hip life, reggae, ragga, gospel, high life, dance hall. Various areas have been shortlisted into 5 zones.
After the auditions, 3 talents will qualify each from the 5 zones. The show will actually begin when the 15 contestants starts the real deal in the studios of Hitz FM. They will be allowed to perform and listeners will be given the chance to vote for their favourite via a Vodafone short code to be announced later.
According to Daddy Bosco, whoever wins the ‘Hitz Discovery’, stardom is guaranteed. He said the station is ready to promote the talent who emerges as the winner. It doesn’t matter which genre of music the person does. They are ready to promote a talent, not the genre.

Okomfour Kwadee Warns Obrafour: Stop Instigating New Rappers To Insult Old Rappers
It looks like in the next few weeks; another controversy will spring up. This time around, it’s about hip life artistes Okomfour Kwadee and Obrafour.
After his comeback concert last year October, Okomfour Kwadee was lost in the entertainment radar. However, he has resurfaced again with a new controversial song.
Okomfour Kwadee has taken a swipe at Obrafour, Ghana’s rap executioner for a line attributed to him in one of his songs. Kwadee said; Obrafour, who should have known better is now instigating new artiste to insult the old and the experienced rappers. A layman will say shut up, Kwadee said it music.
He told GhanaCelebrities.com, he feel a track on Obrafour’s Asem Beba Dabi album called ‘Ma Pain’ is a direct attack on him. This is what he has to say concerning his new single called ‘Hmm’.
“The second verse talks about the fact that Obrafour is instigating up coming artiste to be dissing people on his album. One went to me, so I had to let him know the truth”.
“Also, it talks about me, what I can do, my abilities and disabilities. It also talks about the fact that I’m doing my own thing and that I’m not pirating.” Okomfour Kwadee revealed to GhanaCelebrities.com.
How did he know Obrafour was talking to him in particular? He said if you are musically inclined, you will understand the whole issue.
“You need to be musically inclined to know what’s going on. It was in a song on Obrafour’s album and Guru called my name in his rap. Since it was in Obrafour’s album, the dissing was big….. So I was just giving them warnings.”
So will this song affect their relationship? He said “We are still cool. This is just a song beef, its nothing serious. There is nothing personal.” But he however warns that it will be the clash of the titans if Obrafour replies.
He refuted the rumour that he was missing in action after his comeback concert “I’ve been having so many shows after my comeback concert; I performed at Temafest, Kumasi Old Skuul Reunion and some other shows in Takoradi.”
Some of his songs include ‘Kwaadee’, ‘Obaa No’, ‘M’ani Abere’, ‘Kanni Kanni’, ‘Asete’, ‘Meba Mo Nkyen’, ‘Abrantie’, ‘Ataa Adwoa’, ‘Pito’, ‘Okomfo Rekom (AIDS)’, ‘Meyere Ne Mempena’, ‘Ahwedee Abena’, ‘Efie Nipa’, ‘Obiaa Ba Nye’, ‘Yeeko Mmaape’, ‘P1’, ‘Yeeko Yen Nim’, ‘Ka Wo Nan To So’
When we get the permission from Kwadee’s management, we will publish his new single on here….
Is Yvonne Nelson Staging A Come Back With Her Ex Boyfriend?
The actress told NEWSONE something back that “I have a boyfriend and it will not be fair to go behind him. Jon is just a friend. You can call him and ask him. There is nothing going on between us. I even hear he is getting married.”
But Jon said “I haven’t spoken to her in a week and I don’t feel like calling her and I know she does not also feel like calling me either. I am sure it is over”. And what was the end of their amorous relationship.
Interestingly, the actress has since denied any man she has been found with. From celebs actors John Dumelo, Jym Ike to Black Stars midfielder Derrick Boateng.
To hastily conclude that the actress is a lesbian will be laughable. However, it amazes many why Yvonne has always denied her relationships. Funny enough, our camera lens captured the actress with her former boyfriend “Chase” at Khareema Aguiar’s birthday celebration.
Yvonne’s ex “Chase”, was one of the latecomers to the party, I don’t know if he wasn’t given the right time but after exchanging pleasantries and kisses, he found himself a seat next to his onetime lovebird.
The two were in an intimate relationship sometime back whiles in Central University. Though our source didn’t say why and how their relationship ended, it came out that the actress is really happy anytime they are together and enjoys his company. To say she is just found of him will be an understatement.
The nature of their welcoming kisses raised eyebrows. This made one of the senior citizens ask whether it’s true that they kiss real when shooting a movie. Though some of the actors answered “No”, the message Yvonne and her ex sent across seems to have been noticed by the audience.
“Innocent Chase” real name Fianko Bossman looks happy and comfortable around her, so let’s wait and see how the story unfolds in the days ahead. Is Yvonne Nelson staging a comeback with her ex?
Those of you who do not know Chase, he is an upcoming singer. He is a talented songwriter who wrote hits such as ‘Leave Me Alone’ by Mimi and ‘When I Get You’ by Richie.
New Music Video: ‘Me Do Wo’ By Fritz Featuring Guru
After winning a music competition dubbed ‘The Voice Factory’ organized by an Accra based radio station Citi FM in 2009, Fritz has started recording songs upon songs for the world to know what he has in his sleeves.
Fritz is believed to be riding high on Jazz, R&B, Afro Pop, Highlife and Hip Hop. He takes inspiration from John Legend, Michael Jackson, Black eyed peas, Jason Mraz, Jennifer Hudson, Anita Baker, Tonex, Ne Yo, Kojo Antwi and others.
The young man who was featured in the Vodafone 3030 commercial as Kwame released his single ‘Me Do Wo’ featuring Guru sometime back and the responses has been good. Below is the music video for the track.
Hope you enjoy it…

Ghanaian Comedian David Oscar Is A Complete Joke
As my fellow people may know, part of the Ghanaian National Anthem reads “I promise on my honour to be faithful and loyal to Ghana my motherland” which stares at me every morning I woke up from bed. With this on my mind and as proud that I am as a Ghanaian I’m ready to protect my country in anyway I can. I’m ready to do anything possible to protect Ghanaians, but in the course of doing this; I will not hesitate to show my strong aversion to any inconsiderate Ghanaian.
I always laugh anytime I watch ‘Laugh A Minute’ on Viasat1, not because the show is funny but because of the hullabaloo concerning the presenter of that show. It’s a case of ‘if a child says he won’t allow his mum to sleep, he himself won’t sleep’.
The presenter is one of the most boring hosts of the most boring show on TV now, David Oscar reminds me of events leading to the annual Charterhouse show ‘Night of 1000 Laughs and Music’.
David was gallivanting around from one media station to the other raving and ranting about the fact that the organizers of that show weren’t fair to him and Ghanaian comedians. Okay! Let’s say the organizers erred in not including him but now he has a whole show to take care of and he’s messing up big time. Geez!
David Oscar On Viasat1’s Laugh A Minute
‘Laugh A Minute’ on Viasat1 is a copy version of ‘America’s Funny Home Video’, where funny videos are shown to a live audience or recorded and played later. Interesting, the host of that show is funny and he’s able to make the audience laugh intermittently.
For David who is or has been trying to copy the trait of the host is very dry. He is not a funny person. Some of the videos are even over 15 years old. Though some of them are real funny, David’s jokes are just too dry.
One of the reasons for the introduction of the show was to enable the station to get closer to its local audience to increase their advertising market. Also to erase the notion that the station is only for foreign productions. But so far its ‘enkoyie’ for the show.
I think it is appropriate that when a person if offered the opportunity to take a shot at something, especially when the person claims he’s better than his colleagues yet he was dropped, it is only appropriate that he steps up his game for the organizers who dropped him to feel ashamed but from what he is doing now, Charter House is vindicated.
If I’m right, most comedians are naturally funny. Immediately you set an eye on them, laughter sets in before they finally open their mouth to take you to a ‘laughter land’. KSM has that face, Funny Face has it. I see that in Tommy Annan Forson and Fritz Baffour. I don’t see that face in David.
Now I ask myself what David was thinking in his mind when he was jumping from media house to the other insulting (not literary) Charter House for not engaging in his services. Who does business have to lose?
David Oscar At The Citizen Kofi Comedy Show!
I don’t have any personal agenda against David but constant repetition of jokes is another turn off for many people, including myself. Citizen Kofi Comedy Show was another show David messed up. The show was tagged “if you thought there were no comedians in Ghana, you must be joking! Yeah right.
The show featured Tommy Annan Forson, Hon. Fritz Baffour, and Funny Face among others.
Lots of audience were present though the show should have ended after Funny Face performed. But after David rather ended the show on a boring note. On a more serious note, Ghanaians are tired of David also repeating a joke that a Nigerian comedian has said over and over again.
Imagine this … You go to the club, see a lady dancing and facing the glass in the club. Funny ideas get into your mind. You approach her by tapping her at the back, she turns to face you. Upon seeing her rather not beautiful face, you instantly change your mind …
Come on, David this is Basket Mouth’s joke and anytime he says it, it remains as funny as the first day he said it. Instead of going around town painting Charter House black, just sit down and look out for more creative stuff to tell Ghanaians like he said “there are equally good comedy materials in this country that can shine any and everywhere, giving the opportunity.”
This is simple logic! If David cannot make the viewers of Viasat1 happy and cannot make the handful of people at the Citizen Kofi Comedy Show laugh, then surely he should stop dreaming of being given the opportunity to mount a bigger stage, such as Charter House’s annual comedy show.
Stop joking David and up your game, if you want to be taken serious.

Good News For Zain Customers As Zain MTV Africa Music Awards Looks Promising This Year!
MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) is an award scheme that was conceived three years ago, in 2008. The award is called MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain. This is a result of the telecommunication company being part of the brain behind it and also a proud sponsor. Like any other award, this award was set up with the sole aim of celebrating contemporary African music.
MAMAs Set Up:
The awards which are also aimed at awarding creativity and excellence in the African Music Industry was set up in 2008 with a collaborative effort between Zain Africa and MTV Network Africa. The two companies came together in order to recognize musical talent on the African continent and award them. It also offers a major promotional platform for the African music industry players to excel to the highest level of their creativity.
Previous Editions
The maiden edition of the show was held on November, 2008 at Velodrome in Abuja, Nigeria. It was also hosted by Trevor Nelson. Haitian musician Wyclef Jean hosted the second edition of the awards which was held at the gymnasium of the Moi International Sports Centre complex in Nairobi, Kenya on October 10, 2009.
This year’s edition happens to be the 3rd edition and is scheduled to take place on Saturday 11th December, 2010 at the Eko Expo Hall, Lagos, Nigeria. One unique thing about this year’s award show is that, as part of their social responsibility and deepening the relationship with their customers (users of Zain) and with the media in Ghana, Zain has arranged a competition. This will enable its customers the opportunity to partake, win and experience the awards live in Nigeria.
Zain telecom on daily basis will give one lucky customer the chance to win a trip to Nigeria to watch MAMAs plus spending money of 500USD. Some other prizes to be won by customers are nokia handsets and Zain talk time.
Also in the weekly draws, customers will get the opportunity to win GHC2.000. To end the competition on the final draw, one lucky customer will win an all expenses paid trip to Nigeria, a VIP ticket for the event and spending money of GHC15.000.
There will be 56 daily draws and 8 weekly draws to make way for the grand draw on the 5th of December 2010. This competition is a demonstration of Zain’s commitment and determination in appreciating subscriber’s loyalty to the Zain brand.

Iwan, The Lyrical Gunshot Remembers Terry ‘Adjetey’ Bonchaka
Earlier on Saturday morning, I had visited the tomb of my late dad at the La Cemetery behind the Trade Fair Centre, since it’s a stone throw away from the late Terry ‘Adjetey’ Bonchaka’s tomb, I made a stop over to check on him. I reminisced some years back before his demise and I said to myself Ghana has lost a musical genius.
Little did I know that at the Joy FM Old Skuul Reunion, a performance would be dedicated to him.
At the Joy FM Old Skuul Reunion last Saturday, musicians upon musicians mounted the big stage to perform to the large crowds that had besieged the venue but not all of them gave out a lasting performance to stay in the minds of the people.
Majority of them will be forgotten so far as their output to the event and performances were concerned. Many were called but only few were counted after the show.
Iwan, the Lyrical Gunshot is one of the few artists who will be remebered. The dance hall artist excelled with his performance. Even just before he was announced as the next performer, the cheers confirmed his acceptance in the music industry.
During his performance, Iwan remembered the late Terry Adjetey, who was known as Terry Bonchaka. This shows that indeed Iwan recognizes his late compatriot’s contribution to the music game.
Iwan was possibly nursing his musical dreams when Terry Bonchaka was in his element but that didn’t preclude him for remembering the late young musician.
The dance hall artist launched his debut album ‘My Time’ couple of months back and he is gunning for two awards at the upcoming second edition of the 4Stye Music Awards scheduled for November 20, 2010. He has been nominated in the ‘Discovery Of The Year’ and the ‘Best Reggae Video Of The Year’ with his track ‘Me Gurl Love Me’.
Terry seems like to have been forgotten but he is still on Iwan’s radar because of the resemblance of the time of music. Terry died in October 2003.
Rest In Peace Terry Bonchaka! Long Life To Iwan, The Lyrical Gunshot! Long Life To Ghana Music.
