Viasat1 Supports Peace United Tournament

As part of their social responsibilities to the people of Ghana Viasat1, one of the leading television stations in Ghana, over the weekend supported a tournament dubbed ‘Peace United Football Tournament’. This amazing event took place at  Akrade, a suburb of Akosombo in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The sole aim of the tournament was to pick a winner to represent Ghana in a similar tournament in Oslo and Norway and in turn to welcome the Noble Peace Prize. For their prize, they will represent Ghana in Norway in October 2010 in an expense paid trip.

The tournament with sponsorship from Viasat1 saw the host, Right To Dream Academy (RTD) running out to win the tournament. For those who have never heard of RTD, it is the brainchild of Tom Vernom, a British citizen based in Ghana. His aim is to take Ghanaian sport to new heights and exciting levels of competiveness.
Miss Afi Dzakpasu, the newly appointed Public Relations Officer of Viasat1 said the station will hopefully sponsor the tournament yearly. The station is set to roll onto our screens in Ghana with two locally produced productions “Laugh a Minute” and “The One Show”.

Is Morris D’Voice Dating Miss Ghana 2009 Mimi Areme?

There are slim girls, fat girls, tall girls and short girls. Ordinary guys always have their preferences when it comes to the girls they go out with. This is entirely different with male celebrities, most of them allow lust and their new found status and the fact that they are popular to dictate the type of girls they pick.

Morris D’Voice confessed that he secretly admires three hot ladies in the showbiz industry. He picked
Yvonne Nelson as his ultimate and dream lady because of her lanky height (Geez! I wonder if he forgot about her stinking attitude and questionable make up techniques).

Anyway, this is how he described Yvonne to Ghanamusic.Com “From her full lips to her ample breasts to her swaying hips to her curvy bum”. Morris went on to say he will do a song about this Ghanaian actress who is known to be denying her love relationship with any man. (So she says she never dated any of those men she has been spotted with several times, maybe from now, I will check out the girls she is hanging out with too…)

During Morris’s album launch at the Foxx Trap Night Club in Kumasi, GhanaCelebrities.com spotted Morris D’Voice with another tall lady, Miss Ghana 2009 Mimi Areme in several uncompromising positions. (Ermmm! Yea, uncompromising positions). They sat closer to each other and did all that love birds would do at a public gathering, the giggling was intense.

In an interview with GhanaCelebrities.com, we tried to find out if something was going on between Mimi and Morris. The singer only laughed and refused to say a word. Well since silence means consent, we believe something is coming up later or soon…

Check Video Below….

KNii Lante

Some people enter into the Ghana Music Industry when they are not excelling in their chosen fields, therefore making music their second choice. This makes it amazing why a successful doctor would want to move to singing.

A medical doctor, we know should be in the hospital, to do surgery and prescribe medication. But this doctor is combining the two, doing the surgery, prescribing the medications as well as doing his things behind the microphone.

Those of you who are fans of the late Michael Dwamena would know who am talking about. He was featured on the Ngozi track by the late high life musician.

Lest I forget, he added his voice on Blakk Rasta’s ‘Barrack Obama’ song. He is about release his maiden album “Love and Revolution”.  The video of “From Lagos to Vienna” is already out there on various Tv channels in Ghana.

Who is the Doctor behind the microphone ? … He is called KNii Lante, a songwriter – musician from the West Coast of Africa. Born in Ghana, West Africa and still living in Ghana. He is a doctor at SSNIT hospital at Osu.

GhanaCelebrities.com had a chit chat with the doctor turned musician who  started recording in the 90’s and actually attempted an independent album release around that time. He studied music and played some instruments.
“Yes, I did study some music earlier on but now I no longer read to play. I now do stuff mainly from heart but I guess I still use the basic at subconscious level. I hope to revisit those

days in the future. For now, it’s only ‘feeling’”.

So what brought a medical doctor into the music industry? The fair handsome looking doctor said “I got into music composition while in school (encouraged by Narteh Azu) but actually got into recording later”.
Nii draws inspiration from the achievements of great artists of the past as well as those of our times. Aside that, he is inspired by love, sorrow, happiness, personal experiences and even current world events.
Answering question about his first experience as a musician, KNii said

“My first attempt at being a musician was when as a child I would get together with some friends in the neighbourhood and bang on empty cans and boxes pretending to be playing live band music. We actually formed a “band” and became the number one “noise polluters” on our street as we would “disturb” neighbours’ ‘to ras’”

“A lot of times I would be the “lead vocalist” and would “sing” the popular songs on radio”. He did this “albeit with my own forged lyrics because I hardly really knew the songs well. I remember rushing home from school everyday just to be on the show men! It was fun! But I think these laid the real foundations for my passion for music”.

Many people get into singing because of the fame and the money; for KNii “I sing because I guess I just love singing. And really, ain”t there “So much things to say” (as Bob Marley once put it)?”.

Why is the Doctor on the microphone now? And why singing?  KNii said “Thinking about it, I’ve always been on a mic of some sort. After the entire stethoscope is a mic – for the heart – not so??I’m only trying to give a fuller expression to my life”.

“Well I play a few instruments too but I guess for now my voice is the instrument I use best. The communication is much better”.

Now let’s talk about your new album. Can you run through the songs on the album?

“The album is titled “Love and Revolution”.  Diverse in content as the name suggests, it was recorded here in Ghana. There are, in all, about 16 songs on the CD all written by yours truly and is soon to be released locally under the Deluge Music Label. “Lagos To Vienna” is a song on the album, the video of which is being aired on some of the local TV channels”.

To wrap up the interview Knii Lante said “I don’t even know where to start from. But I take most inspiration from Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Luther Vandross.

Jeremie’s ‘Whatever’ Langauge on YFM

Radio is one of the most powerful tools of communication. It is very important that radio presenters use appropriate language on air as you may never know who is listening. After all, my 7 year old sister likes radio too. (Please do not corrupt her language for me..)

Even though I hardly listen to radio, anytime I do, I go for the best. I have picked YFM as my best but  was disappointed this morning on my way going to Kumasi to witness an album launch. The station was locked on YFM where Jeremie, one of the best female presenters was busy doing her things on the Saturday Morning Live (SML).

She invited rappers D-Black and Kwaku T to the studio to have a chat  concerning their lifestyle and also to find out who among them is the ‘bad’ one, not bad as in spoilt she said.

Seriously, though the discussion was quite interesting, Jeremie continuously use words I find  inappropriate on air, she constantly was saying ‘whatever’ whenever she did not agree with her guest,  ’shut up’ or ‘piss off’ to shut them up.  (Piss off on a repeat early morning on radio in Ghana is a No No, this is not some late night show..)

I believe YFM has a lot of listeners , therefore such unwarranted lingo on air is just unaccepted. Jeremie is good so she must stop the ‘whatevers’, the ‘shut ups’ and the ‘piss offs’ whenever she is on air else……

John Dumelo Cries Foul “I Am Not Gay, Homosexuality Is Evil” + Men In Love Trailer

For the last two months, Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has been in the news for the wrong reasons. He was reported by a Nigerian website to have raped a housemaid in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria where he shot a movie.

Though he denied the rape allegation, he is in the news again, this time he is lambasted from the same website for taking part in a gay movie in Nigeria. John said he is not gay.

So are you gay? Was a question posed by GhanaCelebrities.com to John Dumelo. After uncontrollable laughter the actor said “Ahhh! I am not gay, homosexuality is evil. The way I like … (Pause)”.

John revealed this to GhanaCelebrities.com in a chit chat last Friday at the premiere of ‘The Game’ at the Silver Bird Cinema in Accra that he is not gay. He said it was a movie he shot while in Nigeria. He gave out little of the story.

“Yes I did a movie in Lagos. It was a gay movie. In that movie, I was under a spell. My best friend put me under a demonic spell. He then abused me to satisfy his gay pleasures. When you watch that movie, it actually doesn’t promote homosexuality”. John fought back.

“It regards homosexuality as an evil thing. At the end of the movie, I was prayed for and the demon just came out of me, then I apologized to my wife and family, so it doesn’t mean am gay. It was just to create awareness that people who are actually gay most likely are under demonic spells”.

John described the headline as crap but believed those people behind the story were in fact trying to promote the movie hence the story.
“Most probably they are trying to promote the movie because the headline was too crap. The movie has not come out yet, they have not watched it yet they are saying am promoting homosexuality. No”.

So what is he doing about the story? John said “I have actually contacted them to re-write the story. The movie hasn’t come out yet so people shouldn’t judge and when the movie comes out, they will know am not actually promoting homosexuality”.

“The movie makes homosexuality look very evil. No body wants to come out to do homosexuality movie. You know movies educate and inform so when people watch such a movie, they will know its true homosexuality is indeed evil. So that was the only reason why I did that movie”.

Yvonne Okoro In ‘The Game’: Win Or Lose….

When someone does something extraordinary for the first time, people think it’s a fluke. Yes doubt is created in their minds until the person comes back to build upon the first performance.

In this new movie ‘The Game’, Yvonne Okoro played a role of Brandy Osei, a desperate talkative who falls in love with a man, Ronny Lawson (John Dumelo) she’s not set her eyes on.

Answering question on why she accepted to play such a role, Yvonne told GhanaCelebrities.com “I think the script was different. Most of the movies I have done, I think am always a house wife or some other roles even though they were leading roles”.

“So I thought, me being young and the person I am, I talk a lot so I said okay let me accept this and because of the director and the other cast”.

‘The Game’ has an interesting story. A suspense filled movie. It’s about two brothers; one is greedy and other is smart. They were locked in a web of who tries to outsmart the other. The former tried to eliminate the latter in other to claim the US$100,000 insurance money and other properties, their dad has put together for them.

Majid contracted Shannel Johns (Yvonne Nelson), a thief, a liar, a murderer and a blackmailer. He marries her purely on business terms, promises her 20% of US$100,000 to eliminate his brother, unknown to him the same lady has been tasked by his brother to spy on him (Majid). The game begins now …

Who wins the GAME? Don’t forget “there is a different between being shot and being killed”. It was directed by Frank Rajah Arase for Heroes Production. “The GAME” featuring features Yvonne Okoro, Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Fred Nuamah , Nadia Archer Kang and others.

It will be premiered on the 9th July, 2010 at the Silver Bird Cinema, Accra-Ghana.

Revele Films Is Back With A New Project ‘Elmina’ & On Board Are Akorfa Asiedu, Ama K Abebrese, John Apea & Others

Revele Films is a production company based in Ghana. They specialize in film production and television programmes and are behind the two hit mini series ‘Home Sweet Home’ and ‘Hotel St. James’.Those two series were the toast of Ghanaian TV when it was broadcasted on our screens.

It has a number of lessons and topical issues which were addressed under the directorship of Emmanuel Appea Jnr.

The production house known for its knack for quality, tried their hands on producing movies as well. They produced ‘Fire to Fire’, which featured local comedian Agya Koo. The movie earned them the tag ‘too known’. A name they acquired from their competitors when actually they were not competing with anybody according to John Apea.

He said “I don’t care about your car; I want to buy an aeroplane. We are not competing with you; we are competing with outside”. Also to come from the stables of Revele was ‘Agyapadie’.

After a story well told in the local movies which was subtitled in English for the non-Akan speakers, then came ‘Run Baby Run’. This was produced in 2004. The movie screen played by Emmanuel and John Apea picked four major awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2008. Those awards included ‘Best Child Actress’ which was won by Nina of ‘Home Sweet Home’ fame, ‘Best Screen Play’, ‘Best Pictures’ and ‘Best Director’ won by Emmanuel Appea.

The movie also picked the ‘Best Narrative Feature – The Pan African Programmers Merit Award’ at the 17th edition of the Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) in the same year. PAFF is the largest independent Black film festival in the United States.

After almost 6 years of being on the quiet, Revele Films have commenced a new project. This new movie is under the working title ‘Elmina’. A movie which will be entirely different from what Revele Films have been known for. At least they are about to build on their pass success.

Revele Films led by Executive Producer Julia Apea, actor John Appea and Redeemer Mensah spent time with the press at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel for interaction. Though they didn’t give away the actual story of this new project (for reasons that are unknown), it was discovered that the story is about a family in crisis and the main theme is centered on colonialism and the oil which has been discovered in commercial quantities.

The movie is set and will be shot in the Central and Western regions of Ghana. The story has issues from colonialism to greed to hatred to love and betrayal. The duration of the movie is unknown to them yet but they will make sure every scene is tight, relevant and straight to the point, not like what are seen in other Ghanaian movies.

Revele Films hopes to finish the movie in 21 days commencing on 1st July 2010. After which it will be premiered in Tate Gallery in the UK in October 2010 before making appearance in Ghana in December 2010. The Film crew also includes two UK English men who will to take part in the production, have been flown in from the UK. One from Tate Gallery who will take pictures to the Gallery, whiles the other man is set to play a role in the movie.

Revele Films is made up of good production team who has studied the film and the art of film making. This pushes them to search for good actors and actresses to interpret their good stories. Kofi Bucknor, Akorfa Asiedu, Ama K. Abebrese, John Apea, Kojo Dadson, Redeemer Mensah are some of the experienced actors playing leading roles in this new movie.

“I Will ‘Murder’ Hammer Of The Last Two” – Morris D’Voice

Morris D’Voice was a recipient of Ghana Music Awards Best Sound Engineer on two occasions, in 2003 and in 2005. The sound engineer turned musician who was formally known as ‘Baby Face’ was officially launched as a musician last Saturday at Silver Lifestyle Store.

Though he has made several appearances in other people’s songs, including singing the chorus ‘Bam Bam Tsiki Tsiki Bam Bam’ in Kontihene’s Aketesia. He has done other stuffs with Esther Smiths and others. Morris has eventually released his maiden album titled ‘Home & Away’.

Reading the acknowledgement in the CD inlay of ‘Home & Away’. Morris said “Truly, I am thankful, my precious gift, my mum, you are one of the few who will abandon their dreams to nourish that of their children. I know you would prefer me doing gospel but I promise, this is clean”.

And truly, the ‘Home & Away’ album contains 13 ‘clean’ songs. Though Morris is not doing gospel, the mum will be proud upon hearing the songs. The songs are not gospel, they come close to it because no foul or swearing words were used.

Morris D’Voice explains to GhanaCelebrities.com why as a sound engineer, he is now behind the mic, instead of being in the studio to record artistes. He joked that he will murder Hammer of the last two if he gets the opportunity to work with him on the same track. Below are the excerpts…

GhanaCelebrities.com: How long did it take you to put this album together?

Morris D’Voice: Hmmm! Lets say it took me about 5 to 6 six years because I have always been at the studio recording and I made sure to record songs to keep when an idea comes until One Mic Entertainment came in and then I decided to release the whole album, by that time I had a lot of songs

GhanaCelebrities.com: The ‘Anaa’ track was on Okyeame Kwame’s last album and it’s also on our album. Any special reason?

Morris D’Voice: Because its our song, we actually came together to work on that song, to write so I can produce, so we decided its going to be on his album and my album as well.

GhanaCelebrities.com: Am sure they are several names you can pick from so why ‘Home & Away’ as the album title?

GhanaCelebrities.com: Why One Mic Entertainment?

Morris D’Voice: One Mic Entertainment is a great label because Okyeame Kwame is been a friend and am working on his album, he’s a hard worker, so he was the guy to handle well my album, that’s they reason why I chose to be there and more so, he’s great like I am as a writer as well, so sometimes we write some of my songs together, he is a guy that I learn a lot from.

Morris D’Voice: Almost all the songs, except songs that I wrote with Okyeame Kwame.

GhanaCelebrities.com: Did you work on all the instrumentation?

Morris D’Voice: I worked on everything! From guitar to drums to bass to keyboards.

GhanaCelebrities.com: Any problem why no sound engineer was invited to work alongside you on this album. Do you have any problem with anyone?

Morris D’Voice: I don’t have a problem with anyone or with what you said but if an idea calls for that, definitely I will do that. I am looking forward in working with Hammer of the last two on a track and I’ll make sure to kill him, so he must do his best. I keep telling him (laughter). Hammer is a good friend of my and I keep telling him that anytime we meet on a track, I will make sure to murder him (uncontrollably laughter).

GhanaCelebrities.com: (Laughter) Oh! Murder Hammer?

Morris D’Voice: (Still laughing) I tell Hammer himself, I tell him I will murder him and he tells he will kill me. I believe we are good friends.
